This review is from: ReDiscovering Mary Magdalene- The Making of a Mythic Drama [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Who was Mary Magdalene? In their new and certainly provocative video, ReDiscovering Mary Magdalene, partners Laura-Lea Cannon and David Tresemer explore the reality of Mary well beyond the pages of the New Testament. Indeed, in producing a video about the making of their play, My Magdalene, we find a story within a story that opens doorways and paths to a new "Good News".

Was Mary merely a penitent prostitute as Pope Gregory labeled her in 600 AD? Or was she the Dark Madonna, a Priestess of Isis, who can lead humankind to a new way? And more, what place does modern woman have in this story?

ReDiscovering Mary Magdalene offers the possibility that Mary had more of a relationship with Jesus than found in the New Testament, which never really categorically states that she was a prostitute. Indeed, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Gnostic Gospels from the 2nd and 3rd centuries speak of Magdalene as a woman of great intelligence.

ReDiscovering Mary Magdalene is a brilliant film about a well-staged play that goes to far more than the reality of Mary. Laura-Lea and David ultimately discuss the greater question of the true measure of the Feminine. We are asked why men have historically been afraid of women. We are asked to consider how much better our world would be if the Feminine and their alignment with nature governed compared to the male-dominated and war-like world we have.

And finally, ReDiscovering Mary Magdalene is about the Feminine, not versus, but in balance with the Masculine. Laura-Lea Cannon and David Tresemer offer beautiful cinematography, shot in Israel, France and Egypt, as well as inspiration and intuitive insights. Most of all, this film will open your mind to the roots of the Sacred Feminine!

I thought this video was a great exploration of alternative ideas about who this woman was. AND who she can be for us today, as many of us explore the rememberance of ancient feminine wisdom. This video seemed balanced and seeking sacred masculine as well as the feminine, which is great!
