Book Description

March 23, 2009
The ReExamined Life is a manifesto for those that are losing not only a job, but a career, and possibly the dream of retirement as well. It is a call to action for anyone who finds themselves facing unemployment and an uncertain future. It is a guidebook for the journey that begins the day the job is lost. It counsels the newly unemployed to not become victims, but to take control of their lives, to form a plan and to walk through the steps of finding a new job. Van Steenis gives hard-hitting advice on how all of us can all become more valuable, productive and content. He urges us to reclaim our heritage and become the Next Greatest Generation.

5.0 out of 5 stars VanSteenis knows the subject + has earned the respect of many., April 2, 2009

Mr. VanSteenis has been a huge help to me in organizational issues, decisions, and remedies for years. He goes beyond the average professional in his field. Reexamining life at the time of a job loss is essential to making the right decision going forward. In my personal situation, I lost my executive position in June 2005 and with Mr. VanSteenis's help, decided it was time to try my hand at consulting and teaching. After four years, I could not be happier or more fulfilled. Give this book a read if you have lost your job, could lose your job, or (most importantly) should lose your current job! Sincerely, John Zarb

5.0 out of 5 stars From a hiring manager's perspective, this book is right on target, May 23, 2009
This review is from: The ReExamined Life: What is Possible After Job Loss? (Paperback)
I could not agree more with Bill's thoughts that the key to making yourself employable is problem solving. There is nothing that a manager appreciates more than an employee who can not only accurately diagnose a problem, but also bring the solution. In this economy, we have all had to learn to do more with less people so "out of the box" thinking and fresh perspectives are encouraged. Bill's ideas are very straight-forward and the book is enjoyable to read. He brings his 20 years of experience in trying to help others find a career - - take his advice. He knows what he's talking about!!! I highly recommend this book to not only those who are seeking new employment but to those that are already employed.

5.0 out of 5 stars LASER FOCUS IS THE KEY, May 13, 2009
By
Thomas Nikkel (Douglas, Michigan) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The ReExamined Life: What is Possible After Job Loss? (Paperback)
Having been in the job market for some time, I thought Bill's book would be a repeat of the same, tired refocusing wisdom so common in today's self-help books aimed at the unemployed. But on a recent overseas ministry trip with one of the author's collaborators I had the opportunity to discuss this book in detail and it helped me come to an astonishing conclusion: I was wrong! Bill's book helped me rethink what had become a hopeless attitude and filled me with gratitude for who I am and what makes me tick and then with hopeful expectation for the next greatest job which God is preparing for me. In a word, I'd say this book helped me achieve the kind of laser focus I needed to completely re-imagine my identity, my resume, and my intended job market. Now, for the first time in a long time, I am getting interviews! Thanks, Bill!
