This software is ridiculous. After learning how some anti-virus software can slow down a PC more than just about anything else (including some viruses) I uninstalled Comcast's free McAfee and installed Norton. The result wasn't much better. I use AVG's free version at work, but it has problems granting access to programs and appears to take up too much memory.

Maybe there's cheaper AV software that can beat those programs, but I can't imagine it meeting let alone surpassing the performance of Eset Smart Security. Yeah, my computer's faster, but I've also had no firewall issues - all the highly recommended free firewall programs make me manually recognize my network any time the computer resumes from sleep. This thing seems intuitive. It doesn't throw a fit and protest every time I start Frostwire, but yet it is excellent at recognizing downloads, software, and pages that should require user permission. Sometimes I'm like, "Shouldn't I get a request to allow or deny permission/access," and then about 30-hundreths of a second later - boom! There's the alert. If anyone has or had McAfee you know about the multiple grant/deny requests for the same page or program - then, 30 seconds later when you think you're done there's another one.

Sometimes you get what you pay for. McAfee and Norton seem to invest most of their money in marketing allowing them to charge a cheaper rate for an inferior product. For some reason this appeals to a lot of people. I haven't tried Kaspersky, Trend Micro, Bit Defender, or the others because too many people I consider experts recommended Eset. No need to continue shopping from my end. Sometimes it's impossible to pay too little and get a lot. This is a great product and well worth the price if you rank peace of mind and your computer not behaving like a Slowski as desireable things. You get what you pay for. There's a 30 day no credit card needed trial if you want. That will get you 12 months and 23 days for $59.99 because after one week you're going to decide you want it. Cheers.

I have had all the protection software over the years. None of them has done the total job. This product is so great in all that it says it will do. After installation, registration, and first run through it found 18 entries that it swiftly and completely wiped out. Kudos to the designers, worth every penny spent.

I have been running Eset Smart Security 4.0 for approximately 9 months and have had great success with it. It runs quietly in the background and does not cause my computer to run slow like my previous antivirus did. I have Windows XP. I don't know if that makes a difference. I feel bad for the reviewers who had so much trouble with the product. I have not had any virus problems since using Eset. It updates automatically, but I do run my scans manually. So far I am very pleased with the product.

It's rare when a purchase exceeds expectations. ESET AV has definitely exceeded mine. It's also rare that I'm happy enough with a product to write a review. I liked their AV software so much I just upgraded to Smart Security 4. So if you are in the market for anti virus software, quit looking and just buy it. Not only will the software work as advertised and not bog your PC down like Norton, etc. ESET's customer service is phenomenal.

This is the best internet security program I have ever used. It was very easy to install, and operates without user interruption. No annoying pop-ups like other programs. Updates fast and automatically. Made my system run faster. I have used Norton, AVG, Sophos, just to name a few, and none compare in performance to Eset. Give it a try!

Have had many computer protection programs and this ESET Security is by far the very best protection provider for any computer. Very happy and feel very safe and secure with this protection and performance it provides. From my past uses of Norton, Mcaffee, and AVG. This ESET out performs any of those 100%.

I've used a number of different Anti Virus programs over the years. I'm a Unix user but I have to have a couple of Windows machines around. In the old days Norton was fine before it became bloated, AVG and Kaspersky (Also a good product). I am still running Windows XP and I found Eset Smart Security to be very easy to use without slowing my machine down. No knock on the individuals who had such a hard time but mine runs flawlessly. I had some difficulty getting my serial number and password emailed to me so I called Eset. I was able to get the information I needed in less than ten minutes. I guess it just depends on the users experience at just the wrong time to dismiss it but I recommend this for ease of use and low overhead (Coded in assembly probably helps).

I have been wonderfully supprised at how Eset Smart Security V.4.0 program works. I am hoping that it will continue to function like it has worked so far. I now have piece of mind that I will be much better protected from so many viruses, etx. I highly recommend this product to everyone wanting this security. The computer store that had to reformat my hard drive due to many viruses said that they use this particular program thenselves and recommend it to businesses.

I had a killer virus before I got this software...nearly wiped everything out for good! With this software I'm able to run my pc w/o any worries. I have had a few virus's since I have been running this software and it imedietley shuts them down and takes care of it! LOVE IT!!

For the past 4 years I have been using McAfee as my anti-virus protection. It came pre-installed on my Dell Dimension 3000 desktop and I always maintained a current subscription. Recently, I had a suspected virus attack on my computer (SPAM was sent to everyone on my Hotmail contact's list). To make a long story short, I removed the McAfee, and installed ESET Smart Security V 4.0 on my computer. I've only had the software for 1 week, but so far I really like it.

Installation: 4/5 Stars
I used the CD for installation; The disc did not automatically launch, so I had to manually start the Autorun program. ESET has a video on their website that guides you through the process. Aside from that, the installation went smoothly.

Operation: 5/5 Stars
It took over 2 1/2 hours for McAfee to run a full scan my computer. As it was scanning, it slowed my computer down to a crawl. Smart Security scans my computer in less than an hour. ESET claims that "you won't even notice it's there" and in my experience that is true.

Interface: 5/5 Stars
I am by no means a "computer person", and I found the interface easy to understand. It's basic and straightforward.

Value: not rated
I paid $59.99 at a retail store (Micro Center). I did not comparrison shop because I needed something quick. Other review's have said that this product is relatively more expensive than comparable products out there. Even if McAfee was cheaper, I would still buy this product based on it's ease of use and operation.

Aside from using the online video tutorial for the product installation, I did not need to call support.
