He doesn't just interpret melodies, he excavates them.,

This review is from: Reach (Audio CD)
I never heard anyone toy with the melodies of standards like he does. He is in love with the craft of muscial arrangement. The piano is his canvas of gentle brushstrokes. Highly introspective. His exchanges with Okegwo and Parker are empathic in the best possible sense.

A Mark Levinson(!) Recording,
By
This review is from: Reach (Audio CD)
The name on this CD that will be the big attraction for audiophiles will not be that of Jackie Terrasson (piano), Ugonna Okegwo (bass), or Leon Parker (drums). Nope, the big attraction will be the name of "Marc" Levinson (as it appears several times on the CD--he even contributes some liner notes), whom audiophiles know and love as Mark Levinson, amateur jazz bassist and professional audio entrepreneur, who recorded and mastered this CD using his ultra-expensive Cello gear. To be honest, though, I bought this CD neither because of Levinson's name nor Terrasson's name; rather, it was the names of Leon Parker and Ugonna Okegwo that clinched the purchase decision for me, based on my excitement over Parker's Belief CD, on which these two gentlemen worked together so well.Although this is a nice enough recording--Levinson does a good job--I was a bit disappointed in the music, but this is more a reflection of my taste than a judgment on the ultimate musical worth of the recording itself. Many readers may like Terrasson's music more than I do, and if so, they should really love this CD, because the sound quality is very good indeed.
