4.0 out of 5 stars Melodeath straight from......Texas?!?!
That's right, while having a little metalcore thrown in the mix this is some top quality Melodic Death Metal from Dallas,Texas.Don't dismiss this as simply another metalcore band.Dryline has all the aspects needed in a Melodeath band, from the high shrieks and screams to some low growls.Though the production could be better but all the instruments make their impressions...

3.0 out of 5 stars Dryline ~Reach for the Surface~
As the level of musicianship rises amongst metalcore/hardcore bands that are starting to get bigger (Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Mastodon) the amount of bands out there looking to copy the style of these rising stars also increases. Dryline falls directly in the later category and are playing a style of metalcore that has been done over twice by As I Lay Dying and...

4.0 out of 5 stars Even Better Live, August 17, 2006
This review is from: Reach for the Surface (Audio CD)
I recently purchased Reach for the surface by Dryline at a show they were playing in Topeka, KS. I was blown away by thier realness, thier sincerity, and musicianship. The dual guitar onslaught completely blew the audience away, As I stood there with my jaw dropped, I thought to myself "This is what the metal is all about". I love bands like KSE, Unearth, Between The Buried and me but even they are missing something these guys have so much of, and that is......take a listen and you'll be able to fill in the blank. I love every track on this disk.

For fans of Unearth, August Burns Red, Beloved US, Norma Jean and The Chariot. This is a SOLID album by a solid band. They are super nice guys too!! Buy this CD and support the REAL deal.

As the level of musicianship rises amongst metalcore/hardcore bands that are starting to get bigger (Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Mastodon) the amount of bands out there looking to copy the style of these rising stars also increases. Dryline falls directly in the later category and are playing a style of metalcore that has been done over twice by As I Lay Dying and Unearth. While I do applaud the musicianship of both guitarists I am left wondering if they have an original riff or melody in them. This band owes much to Frail Words Collapse and The Stings of Conscience and even manages to slip a little Norma Jean circa Bless the Marty Kiss the Child in the mix. The shame of this album is that, on its own, many people will and should enjoy it. "Screaming Because He's on Fire" has some tremendous moments and "Breathing Water" epitomizes the epic feel of the genre that This.Day.Forward helped usher in with Kairos. For those of us in the "know" though, albums like this will just fall by the wayside of the bands who did it before them and did it better.

For fans of: Unearth, As I Lay Dying
