What a great book!, July 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Read Across America (Grades 1-4) (Paperback)
I teach 4th grade and while the reproducibles are a bit basic for my students, the activities and recommended books are terrific. I use it as a guide for teaching the seven different regions of the U.S. The kids love putting away their text books and doing an activity or listening to a story about the region we are studying.

This may be just what you've been looking for!, October 19, 2006
This review is from: Read Across America (Grades 1-4) (Paperback)
My seven year-old son and I are enjoying the excellent picture books presented by this book as his 2nd/3rd grade social studies unit on the U.S. I have taught in schools and at home for many years, but some of the books included here are hidden gems. We've enjoyed EVERY book in the New England and Atlantic states sections! Even if you choose not to do all the activities, the approach for learning the states is effective. As you read about each region of the country, you begin to feel familiar with those states. We are using a workbook of blank state maps for him to practice writing the name, capital, postal code, etc.
