Whether you tweet, text, or yammer,
Read Between the Lines will fast-forward your ability to communicate in the new world. I thought I was an early pioneer in texting. By reading RBTL, I learned more in thirty minutes than I had in five years of finger typing. More importantly, I learned how to look cool to my children. You need to get to the point, be clever, and figure out how to take advantage of the limited space (characters) provided by services like Twitter. The new world is here now, and you better get hip or get deleted.

We believe that public safety must be prepared for and utilize technology that is available today and in the future. Cell phones and text messaging have become a mainstay in our society; thus public safety must adapt to this new avenue of communication. Because we must reach out to all of our citizens, text messaging opens many doors. We are very proud of our small role in becoming the first in the nation to provide this service to the citizens of Black Hawk County, Iowa.

I like the flexibility texting offers. I can ask a question as I go along in a class and get students to respond quickly and en masse. All I need is the number they text to, and I don t need pre-prepared Power Point slides with the question and a choice of answers.
