Editorial Reviews

Review

Whether you tweet, text, or yammer, Read Between the Lines will fast-forward your ability to communicate in the new world. I thought I was an early pioneer in texting. By reading RBTL, I learned more in thirty minutes than I had in five years of finger typing. More importantly, I learned how to look cool to my children. You need to get to the point, be clever, and figure out how to take advantage of the limited space (characters) provided by services like Twitter. The new world is here now, and you better get hip or get deleted.

My doctoral research shows that there is much more to texting than abbreviations and phonetic spelling: Texting is a creative, expressive, and practical outlet for a surprising range of uses. In short, texting deserves much better press than it usually gets! It's great to see a book like Read Between the Lines address texting in such an entertaining and informative way.

We believe that public safety must be prepared for and utilize technology that is available today and in the future. Cell phones and text messaging have become a mainstay in our society; thus public safety must adapt to this new avenue of communication. Because we must reach out to all of our citizens, text messaging opens many doors. We are very proud of our small role in becoming the first in the nation to provide this service to the citizens of Black Hawk County, Iowa.

I like the flexibility texting offers. I can ask a question as I go along in a class and get students to respond quickly and en masse. All I need is the number they text to, and I don t need pre-prepared Power Point slides with the question and a choice of answers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mothers Need This Book! November 25, 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a mother of two, I learned that the only way I can get in touch with my kids is through texting. My youngest son told me not to leave a voicemail-he won't listen to it and we all know that they will not even open our emails. Texting brings instant replies. But it takes a long time to type out what you could say in seconds. But not any more. RBTL gives you the lingo that your kids already understand. It makes texting simple and quick - so you can say it all in record time and your kids will actually hear you... they may even think you are cool!

This book is a perfect gift book for all of your girlfriends - whether they have teenagers or not because texting has become the accepted way to communicate with everyone!

3.0 out of 5 stars Book would be better if set-up was tweaked June 21, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Would have liked a more concise guide with texting abbreviations altogether rather than grouped in a few places in the book. Felt as though audience was supposed to be mothers of teenage daughters which I don't fit. Would also have liked included a guide to phone placement of exclamation, question, colon marks, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is amazing! November 24, 2009
Format:Hardcover
I am in my mid-30's and a mother of 2 youngsters. I only started texting about a year ago. It is amazing all of the things I had no clue about before I read RBTL. The book provides me with the lingo and knowledge I need to keep up with the texting world. I had no idea all of the abbreveations and things you could say to people in "text lingo." It is a new language for me and using the information from RBTL has allowed me to bring my texting into the current day and age!
