They have talent, sound, desire to play. And I love KSM,

2 stars from two reviews? Isn't that a little unfair? It is hard for me to find another group like KSM. All-female band and young singers. I adore their beat and energetic sounds of music. I will not talk about lyrics. I am still getting into this group. But they are so good. I want to see more albums from them. Really, give them a try. They are really good.

The Real Deal,

Any one of ten thousand girls could have been Hannah Montana. Disney can take three not-so-handsome brothers with questionable musical talent, give them a back up band and turn them into teen rock superstars. Disney's magic is truly magical.
But these girls are the real deal. Every single one of them has butt-kicking talent. They actually play their own instruments. Shelby Cobra has a voice range like Pat Benatar. When they performed live, they didn't have a back up band of professionals or backing tracks. They got up and did their thing. But every performer is at the mercy of the material. These songs are contemporary bubble gum pop songs better suited for Miley or Demi. There's not much meat to chew on in the lyrics, and the guitar riffs are mostly power chords. It's like a Ferrari that never goes over 25 mph. They never had a chance. But whether they're going to Columbia University or law school somewhere or if they decide to pursue music as a career, these talented girls will be successful in whatever they do.

KSM is a chick band that plays catchy hard rock songs, and they're just about what you'd expect. Nothing deep or meaningful, like Monday being their least favorite day takes up a song (seems familiar). On the other hand, for their genre they're not too bad, good melodies, appropriately wise ass trashy vocals and a generally obnoxious "who says girls can't play guitars" 'tude. So you're asking, okay, how are they different from all the previous girl bands? Well, their website has an answer, "They're younger, looser and they rock so much harder." Right. Looser.
You can catch them tomorrow at the Lancaster Wal-Mart parking lot (I did not make that up), but things are looking up for them, a TV gig and a tour as a backup are coming this fall. Is there any reason you should care about any of this? Not if you're an adult, I'd say check back in ten years or so, after some drugs, failed romances and a band breakup or two, because there is some talent here, and perhaps someday some serious music could result. For now it's purely teeny party fodder. |
