Book Description

January 1, 2000 7 and up2 and up
This unique problem-solving program is designed for children from reading readiness through third grade. It was created to increase young children’s understanding of mathematical concepts through direct visual involvement. Students demonstrate their understanding of the concept by creating a drawing before providing the answer – a perfect combination of reading, math, and art!

Each book contains 180 problems, one for each day of the school year. Students love making pictures, and at the same time, they become successful problem solvers. The open-ended method promotes diversity and confidence among students as they use their own abilities and perspectives to reason through and solve mathematical problems. Students learn to look for more than one way to solve a problem, developing confidence in their reasoning abilities and improving problem solving skills.

The series includes five Teacher Resource Books, one for each level in grades 1-3, one for grades 4-5, and one for grades K-3 based on animal themes. Student Workbooks, with activities chosen from the Grades K-3 Animal Themes are also available.

1.0 out of 5 stars Where's the rest of the book?, October 30, 2004
This review is from: Read It! Draw It! Solve It!: Grade 2, WORKBOOK (Paperback)
I have the same complaint as the last reviewer. I waited a long time for this book to arrive and my mouth hung open in shock when I saw the puny "mini me" of a book I received. There is no index to tell you which solver problem addresses which content area in math, and there aren't enough pages to make this a worthwhile curriculum book. As the last reviewer advised, don't buy this. Look for the full-size edition. The ISBN is 1-57232-435X.

1.0 out of 5 stars book received did not match book advertised, October 13, 2004
This review is from: Read It! Draw It! Solve It!: Grade 2, WORKBOOK (Paperback)
The "workbook" edition I received was nothing like the more comprehensive collection of problem solving activities I was expecting. (The cover also does not match the cover of the book advertised.) If you order this, be aware that you will receive only 45 activities, based on animal themes. Instead of a focus on math and problem solving, the kids are directed to draw animals such as a stag, a doe, a rooster, and a bull. I'm sure the math will be completely lost in the unreasonable drawing tasks. Bottom line, check the ISBN of the more comprehensive book of reproducible problem solving tasks with the same title and don't bother to order this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very misleading, and a rip-off, September 27, 2005
This review is from: Read It! Draw It! Solve It!: Grade 2, WORKBOOK (Paperback)
The Product Details clearly state: Paperback: 48 pages. I wish I had seen that before I ordered it.This appears to be a workbook for the actual book which my Wife saw in a store and asked me to order. The picture does not match the book cover, which states "Grade 2 workbook". 60% of each page is a box to draw in, 25% lines to write on, and the other 15% (max) is 1-3 sentence questions. Do yourself a favor and give your kids a blank piece of drawing paper and ask them silly questions like "how many mittens do 3 spiders require?" then have them draw the spiders. 12 dollars buys a lot of blank paper!
