I was excited to receive a copy of The Ultimate DVD Read and Share Bible from Book Sneeze to review since I have small children. My five year old watched the DVDs as soon as the package came in the mail and loved them. She wanted to watch them over and over since then. I found the book and DVD combo to be very useful for our evening Bible story time. We read the story and then watched the DVD chapter afterwards. My husband and I both felt like it was a great way to reinforce the concepts of each story and that the lessons were retained better. The stories in the book are short enough to hold the child's attention, yet still get across the point of the story. The pictures are bright and colorful in the book and even my two year old stayed interested in the stories. The DVD simply tells each story with a narrator and a few lines from the characters in the story. As a teacher of small children in church, I think that this book and DVD set could also be used in Sunday School or Bible classes at church as an additional resource. I also liked the feature at the beginning of the book where the Contents tell where each story can be found in the Bible. My family really likes The Ultimate DVD Read and Share Bible and I have a feeling that it will be watched many times in our home. I will definitely be suggesting this book to other parents.

[Review written by Homeschool Dad's wife] Finding a Bible that will engage a preschooler is no small task. But I think that Gwen Ellis the author of the Read & Share series has done an admirable job of bringing Scripture alive to the youngest of listeners.

We were unfamiliar with this series and at first I was a little confused by the contents in Volume 2 (chronological but missing some key Biblical figures). After checking out Volume 1, however, I realized that different figures were selected for inclusion from the Old Testament in each volume with some overlapping of content in the New Testament (e.g. both volumes cover Jesus' life).

The illustrations are bright, the stories very manageable for young audiences and there were interactive questions for each story. The accompanying DVD is like watching a live audio with children being able to follow along in their Bible while the story is acted out. I liked that the DVD was more of a still life narration without a lot of action--pretty mellow and low key which I think is important for little ones. The DVD helps reinforce the stories in the book and being able to hear and see the stories makes it easier for little ones to then share what they learn with others.

The book comes with two DVDs which can also serve as a marvelous resource in an educational setting for Sunday School teachers, preschool teachers or homeschoolers to supplement any Bible curriculum.

Personally, I would prefer the series to run completely chronological so that the overall sweep of Bible history is introduced. In order to introduce my children to the consistent flow of Bible history, I would need to go back and forth between Volume 1 and 2. And there is some duplication in both of those volumes when it comes to the life of Jesus.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of "Read and Share: The Ultimate DVD Bible-Volume 2" from Thomas Nelson's Book Sneeze program for review.

The Ultimate DVD Read and Share Bible, Volume Two is an excellent resource for parents of small children. Based upon the International Children's Bible, the Read and Share Bible is paraphrased in such a way that children can understand and will be engaged. Included in this children's Bible are 100 Bible stories including the stories of Joseph, Moses, Solomon, Elijah, Jonah, and most importantly Jesus. Two DVDs also accompany this Bible. On each DVD you will find brief stories to give your child another visual experience while they are learning these important foundational stories of the Bible.

When I first received this children's Bible, I was a little unsure about it. I was not very fond of the illustrations at first. But as I spent some time and looked through the pages, and watched the DVDs with my children, it grew on me. The stories are paraphrased in a very engaging way. At the end of each story, there is either a statement or question to help the child reflect on what he/she has just read. This is also helpful to the parent if they are unsure in what way to guide or discuss the story with their child. Each of the stories on the DVD is very brief, but very powerful as a tool to reinforce the truths they learn while reading the stories. The teaching aspect is something that is very important to me.

I would recommend this Bible to parents of small children ages 2-10. The product details from a well known bookseller indicate the reading level at ages 4-8, but I believe you can start reading the stories with your children a little earlier than that, and continue as long as their interest remains in this particular format.

A couple months ago I was given the opportunity to read volume 1 of Tommy Nelson's Ultimate DVD Read and Share Bible. I found some of the story placement to be a bit odd, but other than that, I thought it was a cute bible story book for small children. Because I liked volume 1, I was very happy to be presented with the opportunity to review volume 2, as well.

Much like the first volume of this Read and Share Bible, the stories are told in a way that will be easy for very young children to understand and retain. The illustrations are cheerful and nicely represent the stories they accompany. For every story, a scripture reference is given so you will know where you can look it up in the bible. As with volume one of this bible, this bulk of the stories found in this volume are from the Old Testament.

The book includes two DVDs that offer cartoon versions of 26 different stories from the book. Many of the videos cover several of the little stories. While the cartoons aren't the greatest animation, they are still decent quality.

My biggest gripe about this book is their retelling of the Last Supper. Just as in other Tommy Nelson books from this series that tell the story of the Last Supper, they refer to the wine as grape juice or to be more specific "juice of the grape." It simply irritates me that they don't call it wine. This type of translation makes me shy away from recommending it for Catholic children.

Overall it's not a bad bible story book. I'd recommend this book for Protestant children and Sunday school teachers of little ones of preschool-kindergarten age. I would not recommend this book for Catholic children.
