Since the beginning of time, diviners and seers have been finding signs and omens in the world around them--in pools of water, tea leaves, delicate patterns of cracked animal bones, and the ripples of clouds in the sky. Because these observers have been able to connect to a deeper level of awareness, they have come to sense hidden truths in powerful and mysterious ways. In modern times we call those who possess these abilities “psychic,” but native cultures accepted that each of us has an innate sixth sense and can learn how to read the forces of nature.
In this fascinating and enlightening guide, historian and psychic Sarvananda Bluestone shows us how our innate knowledge can be rediscovered, allowing us to become far more in tune with our surroundings than we ever dreamed possible. He teaches us to use everyday objects and the wonders of nature as magical tools that offer a window into the future--and ourselves. Filled with more than seventy-five practical exercises, How to Read Signs and Omens in Everyday Life demonstrates how the discovery of the power within ourselves requires nothing more than a little guidance and a willingness to see.
SARVANANDA BLUESTONE, Ph.D., received his doctorate in history from the University of Wisconsin. After years of teaching, he left academia behind for an ashram in India and then a spiritual community in Oregon. He now lives and works in New York.

If you're even remotely interested in finding your own inner psychic, or if you're a skeptic (as I was), pick up this book. I am looking forward to other books by Dr. Bluestone (including a forthcoming book on dreams).
I found the forward particularly interesting, because here the author discussed exactly what divination is, how it works and how the energy of all things in our environment shapes our daily experience. Bluestone illustrates the fact that we are all intuitive beings capable of having a conversation with the universe through signs, omens and synchronicities well, saying: “In this book I ask people to see things. I ask folks to see images in clouds and to hear the voice of the wind. Is that crazy? Hundreds of cultures have been doing things like that for thousands of years.”
Tapping into our ability to converse with the universe and the spirit of all things allows us to navigate our lives, create meaning in an often mundane world, speak to our higher selves and most of all, connect with the intelligent and divine universe itself. Bluestone covers a breadth of material and gives the reader an excellent understanding of how the universe is always communicating with us in an intelligent and insightful way.
Not only does the book go into depth about how signs and omens work, what they are, and their historical context through various cultures, but a wide variety of divination techniques are covered, including scrying with mirrors, crystals and water, working with runic alphabets, stargazing, western and eastern alchemical processes, working with the four elements, feng shui, shamanic totem animals and signs in nature, dowsing and eye gazing.Read more ›
