Book Description

October 1, 2001
Discover your psychic powers and learn to use the wonders of nature and the world around you as magical tools of divination.

• Practical and enjoyable exercises help readers reconnect with their innate psychic sensitivity.

• Includes 75 methods and practices of divination from around the world.

Since the beginning of time, diviners and seers have been finding signs and omens in the world around them--in pools of water, tea leaves, delicate patterns of cracked animal bones, and the ripples of clouds in the sky. Because these observers have been able to tap into a deeper level of awareness, they have come to sense hidden truths in powerful and mysterious ways. In modern times we call those who possess these abilities "psychic," but native cultures accepted that each of us has an innate sixth sense and can learn how to read the forces of nature that appear before us.

In this fascinating and enlightening guide, historian and psychic Sarvananda Bluestone shows us how our innate knowledge can be rediscovered, allowing us to become far more in tune with our surroundings than we ever dreamed possible. He teaches us to use everyday objects and the wonders of nature as magical tools that offer a window into the future--and ourselves. Whether watching birds cross the morning sky or divining the subtle energies of the earth, you will see the world in an entirely new light. Filled with practical exercises, How to Read Signs and Omens in Everyday Life demonstrates how the discovery of the power within ourselves requires nothing more than a little guidance and a willingness to see.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Sarvananda Bluestone in one compelling excursus sweeps out the New Age fundamentalist fallacy that all our oracles need be Chinese or Gypsy. Rather he shows us, with a refreshing wisdom, how to let nature and the raw material of our experience be our projecting screen for the wisdom faculty of the soul. How to Read Signs and Omens in Everyday Life should be required reading for Divination 101!"
(Stephen Larsen, author of A Fire in the Mind: The Life of Joseph Campbell )

"Sarvananda Bluestone is a rare combination: a gifted psychic who is also a scholar and a scholar whose clear and lively writing style is accessible to all. In How to Read Signs and Omens in Everyday Life, Dr. Bluestone offers a smorgasbord of fun, easy, and magical games with which anyone can tap in to the latent sixth sense that is our birthright as humans."
(Helen Weaver, author of The Daisy Sutra: Conversations with My Dog and editor of The Larousse Encyclopedia of Astrology )

"In this fascinating paperback he presents 75 exercises for finding signs and omens in the everyday world.  Bluestone's exercises are helpful, provoking us to read the world around us."

5.0 out of 5 stars Well researched, well written, authoritative, and fun, December 16, 2002

This review is from: How to Read Signs and Omens in Everyday Life (Paperback)
I picked up this book as a skeptic and wound up finishing it far more open to the ideas that Dr. Bluestone writes about. The book is full of eye-opening games and exercises, and uses humor and true-life anecdotes to illustrate complex ideas and concepts. "How to Read Signs..." isn't hocus-pocus Madame-X magick stuff, as many books claiming to cover similar ground wind up being. It's a truly educated examination of the subject, grounded in real-world examples and thought-provoking stories. I've never read a book quite like it, and doubt that any of comparable quality exist on this subject.

If you're even remotely interested in finding your own inner psychic, or if you're a skeptic (as I was), pick up this book. I am looking forward to other books by Dr. Bluestone (including a forthcoming book on dreams).

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnifying Glass For the Third Eye, March 20, 2002

This review is from: How to Read Signs and Omens in Everyday Life (Paperback)
This is a well written, highly readable, informative, scholarly, loving and fun book and it's not often I can say all those things about the same book. Sprinkled with lovely, thought-provoking quotations and brimming with informative insights into the working of intuition this delightful book offers dozens of intuition-expanding exercises or games that can be used alone or with others for fun and development. Dr. Bluestone is that rare psychic who comes across as entirely genuine, thoughtful and grounded in reality. He shows us with practical examples how completely natural our own 6th sense is and how to hone it to gain greater appreciation of the world around us. I recommend this book to young people and adults. It encourages us to explore our selves and our world, both seen and unseen, more fully and makes the process very enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Pleasant Surprise, July 16, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: How to Read Signs and Omens in Everyday Life (Paperback)
I bought this book thinking it would be a psychic awareness guide. And it is but not in the way I expected. Mr. Bluestone covers a number of divination techniques that anyone can apply to their every day lives. Each chapter entices you to read more and the excercises which Mr. Bluestone refers to as "games" are fun and easy to follow. They are also excellent in the way they(the "games") open your mind leading you into amazing journeys within and without yourself. As an avid reader, I found Mr. Bluestone's to be the best and easiest guide for enhancing your own individual psychic awareness. This is one of a few books that I read twice, highlighted passages, and wrote myself an outline on each chapter noting which "games" worked best for me. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has always wanted to dabble in the art of divination but had no idea of where to start. Mr. Bluestone's book will definitely help you find your own psychic abilities and show you how and where to begin your journey.
