Well worth the money,

This book is an excellent resource to teach word families. This book has wonderful reproducible books that are easy to use. I teach kindergarten and I use this at the mid-year point when kids are ready to enjoy learning word families. Another great one to get with this is called Turn-to-Learn with word families. Kindergarten students LOVE it and I would guess that it would also be a great resource for first grade. I wouldn't be without mine. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!

Read and Write Mini-Books (word families),

I have found this book to be helpful for using with my kindergarten class to work on word families. The children are very excited to learn that once they can spell (or read) a few words in a word family, they can spell (or read) many others with that same ending.
Each mini-book can be copied double-sided onto one page, and then cut apart and stapled to become an 8-page mini-book. This makes them a good choice if you are concerned about using too much paper or going over your copy budget.

This is another good resource for children to use hands on to learn word families at any grade. My students really love these books and like to take them home to read to their parents.

Each of the little books not only uses a different word family, but also offers one or two new sight words. These are very short little books, great for the beginner reader that gets discouraged easily.
A snake A snake wants to bake A snake wants to bake a big cake A snake wants to bake a big cake on a lake. The last page offers the child a chance to fill in the first letter of the "ake" words. The "eep" book goes like this The Sheep The sheep drove the jeep The sheep drove the jeep and went beep The sheep drove the jeep and went beep in his sleep. Well you get the idea.

Children are excited about making and reading their own little books which they make. Funny pictures help them enjoy making additional words in each word family.

I am so excited about using this book to reinforce work families for my kindergarten students. I like the word cards that are in the book. Very age appropriate for Kindergarten and up, but I don't believe any of my preschool students could use this book at this time although it could be used to reinforce rhyming concepts.

This book is quite handy. The pages are perferrated so tearing them out to copy is easy. My kiddo loves being able to color the pictures after he reads the story. I like the tracing of letters and the beginning letters fill-ins on the back page. The pictures are very cute which was a big draw for us along with the coloring aspect.

I used these books as follow-up practice for at home with my second language learner first graders during the first half of the year. The predictable format and word families made these a weekly addition to my homework assignments. I had them store their collection in a gallon Ziploc bag for independent reading in the classroom, too. I will use these with my own daughter once she is old enough to read.

Fun Little Books to reinforce Rhyming,

My daughter loves these. My daughter especially loves writing in the letters to complete the words. I suppose I'm a funny mom, but I always give books as birthday gifts, because I figure that every child gets toys for their birthday. I made some for a friend's son who is in kindergarten for his birthday and he loved them too. It was a gift for him and his parents. It made him feel so good to tell his mom he read a book on his own!
One mom commented on the need to assemble the books and that she hadn't realized that before she bought the book. Most Scholastic teaching books are that way--but I love that, because you can copy them over and over again. You have the right to reproduce the sheets for personal use. |
