4.0 out of 5 stars "The Book That Tells All"., September 1, 2010
This review is from: Read the dealer (Spiral-bound)
This is a great classical book by the legendary Steve Forte titled "Read The Dealer". Steve Forte is very good in learning & teaching Blackjack "tells" : how he was able to guess with high precision as to the value of the dealer's Downcard that dealer peeked! The book was written in 1986 with some encouragement from Arnold "The Bishop" Snyder (of Blackjack Forum fame) : In those good old days, the dealer would peep/peek at the Downcard each time s/he has Ace or 10 as Upcard. If the dealer had a Natural/Blackjack/21, s/he immediately collect all bets as losing bets except for a tie if a player also had a Natural/Blackjack/21 where no money exchanged hands. If the dealer had no Natural/Blackjack/21, the game would proceed normally & this is were the book "Read The Dealer" became handy : the dealer's behaviour/mood/interaction (called 'tells'), lets you 'predict/guess/know' the dealer's Downcard either high or low (hence the dealer's hand) & thus appropriate action taken when your turn to play your hand came!Steve Forte & hence the book, was excellent in reading these 'dealer tells'! Casinos took action and they now use 'Technology' to peek/peep at the Downcard : (1) "Bigger Casinos" e.g. MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, The Mirage, Caesars Palace [The Strip, Las Vegas, Nevada], etc use two small glass windows on the Blackjack tables to read the Downcard [One for when Ace is Upcard (camera to check for a 10) & the other window when a 10 is showing (camera to check for an Ace), making this book obsolete! (2) However, "Smaller Casinos" e.g. Circus Circus, Sahara, Riviera, Stratosphere (The Strip, Las Vegas, Nevada) & all Downtown Casinos, Las Vegas, Nevada use 'Technology' only when the dealer has an Ace showing but the dealer peeps/peeks when a 10 is showing & thus the book can be used in this 'limited' instance with some success! 'Technology' renders this book obsolete as the dealer is instructed on the window : [(Blackjack/10 or Deal & nothing more)]!

This is a classical book of note, has limited use in the modern Blackjack games because of the use of 'Technology' by many major casinos, but can be an aid in "Smaller Casinos" & is of great historical value (Collector's Item), written by the legendary Steve Forte. He is well known these days for his Consultancy Work in Casino Protection to casinos all over the world.
