Beware -- the good reviews are for other software titles!,

I purchased Reader Rabbit Math ages 4-6 based on the excellent reviews listed here. The software was so awful that I had to come back to see why everyone thought it was so great. Then I noticed under each review "for an alternate product." Maybe other Reader Rabbit products are good but this one jumps from counting objects in Level One to adding three numbers on Level Two. I would think that it would make sense to stick to 2+2 before jumping to 2+3+4 which is what this program does. My five year old was immediately intimidated and confused by the software when she tried Level Two. Definitely not worth the money!

Having purchased the Reader Rabbit Learn To Read With Phonics, I wondered if there was a similar excellent product for early math learning. Unfortunately, Reader Rabbit Math, though it has some fun games, is a relic of an earlier era of educational software, and is difficult to install on a modern system, such as Windows XP. Reader Rabbit Math is an adaptation of an earlier game called Math Rabbit, and as a result, has some compatibility issues.
Both Reader Rabbit and Math Rabbit make an appearance in this title, as operators of two halves of a math carnival. Unlike the Learn To Read With Phonics series, there is no story arc for this math game, so it lacks the imaginative adventure that may help motivate some youngsters to keep going. This title is more like a conventional computer game, in which players play various math-based games to accumulate points. The two halves of the game are patched together somewhat awkwardly, and when a player chooses to play the Math Rabbit half, the screen area of the game actually shrinks by about 25%, perhaps reflecting older code that was written for display adapters with much lower resoltion than is available today. Also unlike Learn To Read With Phonics, the software makes players choose what level of difficulty they want to set for each of the games every time you play, rather than keeping track of a player's progress and adjusting the difficulty automatically, while keeping these configuration settings away from access by the youngsters. When using the software with Windows XP, the program needs to run in Windows Compatibility mode.

It's tough finding something for kids to play while not spending a fortune and wasting brain space on senseless games. The Reader Rabbit series are great because they offer great ways to learn while keeping things simple and fun in a cartoon-like format. The software is easy to install and I found that my six year old could easily navigate the program without getting stuck. She sat on it for hours!! I was surprised to see the fun she had with the program and look forward to purchasing further copies.

Installation is a Pain,

Can't figure out why on two separate OSs the installation of this software has issues. The installation SW can't see all the file on the CDROM because they are hidden, Oh and that isn't obvious. you get an error message during install and when you go to the website their solution are incomplete and it isn't the right one for the error message. I have worked with computers for 20 years, and it took a good hour+ to figure out what was really going on....Oh and phone support for this product is disontinued.

This product is great and delivery was quick as a bunny! My kids love it They are homeschooling so its great practice and a terrific teaching tool. My 5 yr old aspires to be in preschool for life, so if he thinks he's playing AND he learns it's just way easier and faster and less frustrating for all. Its Awesome!!Thanks RR! Respectfully, Mary H.

well, recieved reader Rabbit Math 4-6 most recently along with a few other Stuart Little Math & Writing CDs and have had the worst time installing. Tried to install on Win98 and it failed, indicating it required a "wing".exe file. Same problem with a brand new WinXP operating system. Sent inquiry to Broderbund to fix the problem and received a response of instructions the size of a small novel! This is without a doubt the most difficult software program I have ever tried to install. Whenever I should get it installed (reading page 78 in "resolving the Wing.exe issue at the moment) I will return for a review on this program.. In the meantime, my little on is enjoying the other 12 children's learning programs, including Stuart Little.

This review is specifically for Reader Rabbit Reading Preschool - 1st Grade. I had ordered Math Adventures, but the Reading one came instead; however, I kept it because my five-year-old daughter is enjoying it. The game is to collect letters to fill in a message. Before each letter can be put into the message, the player must go through several games, which will introduce the child to letter sounds and sight words. It is phonics-based. It probably can't replace reading instruction, but it is a good reinforcement.

My 3 yr old doesn't "get it" yet...but my 4 yr old loves it! This game teaches early math skills in a fun way! The kids earn tickets as they get things correct and can "buy" things with their tickets. Not a tough game as you would think -being a "math" one...it is fun! It is worth the money & your kids will enjoy the time they spend on it.
