A magical album, March 28, 2004
By A Customer
This is probably one of the best albums I've ever listened to. The songs were written more than two hundred years ago by the great Scottish poet Robert Burns, but sound inceredibly fresh and relevant. Eddi Reader's voice is wonderful and, accompanied by the Royal Scottish natioanl orchestra, she gives the songs a classy, powerful interpretation. Most of the songs are subtle, melancholic, and moving, but there are a couple that will make you want to practice your Scottish dancing moves (and I'm not even Scottish!). All in all - this is a beautiful album.

WOW, What a voice and what beautiful music!, April 10, 2005
My husband and I watched and very much enjoyed an Irish Film called "A Love Divided". In it was a beautiful song "Ae Fond Kiss" so we looked for a CD, but could not find the same performer. We decided on Eddi Reader and found so many more beautifully done songs. My very favorite, and it moves me to tears every time, is "Wild Mountain Side". "Willy Stewart" is great fun, and her rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" will make it a new favorite for you, too, probably. "Ae Fond Kiss"? Oh, it's just wonderful. What you hear on the promo here is just a teaser and not the best parts!
Eddi has a beautiful strong voice and with her lovely Scottish accent makes her music breathe, and laugh and cry like few I have heard. I'm not the kind of person who buys lots of CD's, very few in fact. But I'd hate to be deprived of this one.
If you like Celtic music, give this a try. It's something different. If you like beautiful music, give this a try. If you hate music and have been waiting for something to 'turn you on', give this a try.
I'm not related to Eddi Reader nor have I any personal interest whatever in this music company, the music industry, amazon.com,
musicians in general, or any other thing that might 'color' my strong opinion, in case you wanted to know. :)

Truly a Beautiful Rendition of Robert Burns Songs, December 21, 2004
I can't find the words to adequately express my appreciation of this fine CD. I consider Robert Burns to be one of the finest poets and songwriters of all time and Eddi brings to life again his amazing songs. She handles his songs with a deep understanding and her voice and singing style is beautiful in itself. She really has a lovely melodic and stirring voice. "My Love Is like a Red, Red Rose" is a masterpiece when her beautiful voice is combined with Burns' immortal song lyrics and melody. And I challenge you to listen to "Auld Lang Syne" the first time without tears in your eyes. If you like the poetry and songs of Robert Burns and you enjoy a clear and beautiful melodic voice backed by excellent orchestral arrangements, you'll enjoy this CD.
