Years ago I bought this book at a garage sale for .50 and gave it to a gal at work because I missed it, repurchased it and intend to keep this one!

I would recommend this book to any creative seamstress/sewer who likes to try new media.

I have owned this book for years. I have taught myself to do almost everything in it without difficulty. The picutres and diagrams are clear, each section begins with a supply list, and there are patterns at the end of each section. I love this book so much, I bought a second copy because my original has become so worn from use.

This is a really great book. It showed so many nicely illustrated pictures of all the stitches in knitting and crocheting. I only looked at it from the library, though. I tried to buy one and I couldn't. Now, since they don't make it anymore, you have to actually buy it from a person.(used) It is a very great book that I recommend for craft-lovers.

I have been searching for this book as a replacement (my dog had it for lunch). So much information in this one book with wonderful illustrations, This book is great for a beginner or a seasoned knitter, etc. Would recommend to everyone.

This book contains every form of needlework that I can think of. I bought my copy in 1980 when it was first published, but It is no longer in print, so I ordered it from a reseller and I was surprised when it arrived: There are no more copies of the book published in the US, and those now available, even in the US, were published by Readers Digest Ltd of Canada. The book is exactly like mine, but there are charts giving American, British, and metric needle sizes for such items as crochet hooks, knitting needles, and tapestry needles. As far as I know, there are no other differences -- I didn't check for American vs British spelling of certain words -- color/colour, theater/theatre. Overall, even with the charts, it is still the most complete and comprehensive book on needlework that I have ever seen.

I recently bought three of these books because I got mine many years ago and have found it to be an excellent resource for instructions that I returned to many times over the years. My niece wanted to learn how to knit and crochet (she's a new mom). I told her about the book that I had. When I got home I thought maybe Amazon might still have printings of it. Sure enough, you did! So, I ordered three: One for my daughter, one for my niece, and one for my younger sister. Only a few days ago, I referred back to my book to refresh my memory on how to do smocking. I wouldn't take anything for mine!

This book seems to be great... but I don't really know.

I have such a difficult time with following directions due to some mental issues... so I was hoping this would alleviate some of that.

Unfortunately, it changed nothing. I think I would need at least double the stops they provide here in order to be effective at all. The directions to crochet are so convoluted to me...

I do have to say, that I'm really impressed with the range of techniques they provide. This book seems like it would be great for those who can deal with it.

This book has absolutely everything you ever wanted to know about stitchery. It covers all types and includes variations for each type. It gives thorough, clear directions for anything one would ever want to stitch.

I would recommend this book to any creative seamstress/sewer who likes to try new media.

The reader must allow time to cover all of the material in this book but since patience for reading also must be present for sewing, it sets the serious mood for the serious, creative sewer.

in PA, so ordered myself another book. This book has pretty much everything in the way of needlecrafts. Good pictures and good illustrations also. Well worth the money - I think I paid $10 or $12 for it. I bought a used one that was in "very good" condition. If you buy it, you won't be sorry. I love to knit, I do some crochet, and I love embroidery and cross stitch. But, the book has so much more. This is a good "reference" book to get.
