An indispensable word-search instrument.,
By Ned Middleton (British professional underwater photo-journalist & author) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Reader's Digest-Oxford Complete Wordfinder (Hardcover)
Even though all writers need constant access to a Dictionary and Thesaurus we still experience those wretched occasions when the right word simply will not come. Personally, I was unaware that a combined Dictionary and Thesaurus even existed until I came across this particular product at a car boot sale. Lucky me, in mint condition I picked it up for a song! The Reader's Digest Complete Wordfinder is exactly that - the means of finding whatever elusive word is sitting at the back of your mind but simply avoids identification. Set out like a Dictionary, all words are listed and described as one would expect to find. For those words which also have different meanings or for which other words describe the same thing (e.g.: Pattern, figure, motif, design) those synonyms appear at the end of each word's definition - just as they would in a Thesaurus. In the short time I have owned a copy if this book, I have already come to rely on it more than either of the two invaluable tomes it has now replaced - both of which are particularly well-thumbed. This product is indispensable for any writer - at whatever level, and I am amazed that I was previously unaware such an item existed. NM

The item I ordered was in excellent condition. It actually looked brand new instead of having been used (the original owner apparently seldom used it). I've owned the Readers Digest Great Encyclopedic Dictionary for many years and of all my various dictionaries, that has always been my favorite. I purchased this Reader's Digest Word Finder because of a writer's review of it and because of my experience with the Readers Digest Great Encyclopedic Dictionary. This one has proven to be just as useful for writing as my other dictionary has proved to be for reading. I'm very pleased with this transaction and would absolutely order from this seller again.
