Rosie:

Nick Robertson thought he'd gotten used to his grandmother's behavior. At 87, Rosie's determined that before life passes her by, she will live a little. Or, preferably, a lot. It wouldn't be so bad if Nick had nothing else to do. But with a living to make on the Isle of Wight, two warring parents on the mainland, and a love life in terminal decline, he would prefer his grandmother to get on with things quietly. But there's no time like the present, insists Rosie. She'll help Nick find the soul mate he clearly lacks, and he can help Rosie make the most of her few remaining years.

under orders:

Beloved series character Sid Halley, a champion jockey, makes a welcome return in the latest fast-paced crime novel from bestseller Francis (Come to Grief). When a crippling injury forces Halley into retirement, he begins a second career as a PI. Thanks to his doggedness and integrity, he attracts many clients, including a mysterious government figure who asks him to assess the unintended consequences of Britain's legalization of Internet gambling, and others who wish him to unravel the nest of puzzles surrounding the murder of a jockey, Huw Walker, suspected of throwing races. This time, the sinister forces arrayed against him have an unexpected weapon--threats of violence against Halley's new significant other.

My mother cannot read regular print and thus I look for the Reader's Digest with the two stories in them.
