Book Description

0872877434 978-0872877436 September 15, 1989 annotated edition
Twelve reproducible scripts from the classics serve as examples of the readers theatre format. In addition, the authors have identified scenes from 30 contemporary novels (e.g., Prairie Songs, Tex, Gentlehands, Z for Zachariah) that are suitable for adaptation to readers theatre. An annotated bibliography of recommended works completes the guide. This unique teaching tool helps students develop a thorough understanding of theme, character, and drama.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful classroom resource, December 4, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Readers Theatre For Young Adults: Scripts and Script Development (Paperback)
A good selection of readers theatre scripts ready for use with middle schoolers and high schoolers. Short, but work well as lesson motivators when you are teaching literature. Includes: WUTHERING HEIGHTS, DON QUIXOTE, RED BADGE OF COURAGE, DAVID COPPERFIELD, TALE OF TWO CITIES, SILAS MARNER, HOUSE OF SEVEN GABLES, THE SCARLET LETTER, RIP VAN WRINKLE, WHITE FANG, THE PURLOINED LETTER, FRANKENSTEIN, DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, TOM SAWYER, PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY. Also suggests scenes from 40 other novels that would work well as Readers Theatre.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a HUGE RIPOFF!, April 28, 2010

This review is from: Readers Theatre For Young Adults: Scripts and Script Development (Paperback)
I can't believe that I paid $24.30 for this little booklet of mini-excerpts. When the last reviewer said that they were short, I had no idea that most of the pieces are only a page and a half. Can I get my money back? I was hoping to use these in class, but I could write my own scripts more easily than I could find a way to incorporate these literary tidbits. The title is completely misleading. This is NOT a book of Reader's Theatre for Young Adults! What a ripoff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great script development training for young adults!, December 17, 2010
By
This review is from: Readers Theatre For Young Adults: Scripts and Script Development (Paperback)
Part 1 of the guide explains what Readers Theatre is, and how to use it with students.

** This is NOT a collection of plays to be read in class--it is a guide to help teachers train students to apply what they know about a novel by writing & performing their OWN novel-based plays.

Part 2 has 16 completed sample scripts, created from classic novels, that can be duplicated and used in class. Their purpose is to show students examples of how novels can be turned into dramatic scripts.

Part 3 has 40 starter scripts, from contemporary novels. Students would expand the starter script and create their own script based upon their knowledge of the novel.
