Book Description

November 29, 1998
The Micorosoft Readiness Review series helps people determine if they're ready for the real Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) exam by identifying strengths and weaknesses, and providing information on areas for improvement. "MCSE Readiness Review Exam 70-067 Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server" measures abilities to plan for, implement, administer, and troubleshoot information systems that incorporate the high-performance server operating system in a simple computing environment - one that might include one or more servers, a single domain, and a single location; and it might have file-sharing and print-sharing capabilities. Skills that are assessed include installation and configuration, managing resources, connectivity and monitoring and optimization. A test delivery engine on CD covers exam objectives by randomly providing dozens of sample questions from a pool of hundreds more, so students can retest themselves with different questions. And all responses both right and wrong result in helpful explanations. A companion book features test preparation suggestions and a list of all questions included in the Readiness Review exam.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

The idea behind MCSE Readiness Review: Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 is to determine your level of preparedness for Microsoft's Windows NT Server 4.0 exam (70-067), one of the tests you must pass en route to certification as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). Rather than attempt to teach the exam material, this book/CD-ROM package asks questions like those on the exam and provides answers to them. The questions--several hundred of them--cover all of Microsoft's stated goals for the exam.

This book's format facilitates efficient independent study. In each two-page spread, the right-hand page contains one or two problems and a choice of answers for each. The left-hand page contains answers to the questions posed on the preceding page, complete with a restatement of the questions and explanations of why the correct answers are correct. This means you can study a question without being tempted to glance at the answer or having to cover it up, and yet it's very easy to turn the page and check your response. Candidates who aren't familiar with the tested material can study the left-hand pages to increase their knowledge, though such people probably ought to supplement this book with a more in-depth tutorial. --David Wall

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what it appears to be, December 27, 1999
This review is from: MCSE Readiness Review Exam 70-067 Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 (Paperback)
Unlike the MCSE Readiness Review for 'Networking Essentials', this book fails to prepare you for the 70-067 exam that it is named after. After taking the practice exam for the 'Networking Essentials' MCSE Readines Review and making a 90%, I took the actual exam and was pleased to see questions on the same content. Naturally, I also scored high on the exam. After studying this book and making a 95% on the practice test, I was extremely disappointed to find that the real exam dealt with very little of the content found in this book. In fact, I would have to say that after mastering this book, I was quite *un-prepared* for the 70-067 exam. ( and it cost $100 to find out )

2.0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Windows NT Server 4 Readiness Review, March 8, 2000
This review is from: MCSE Readiness Review Exam 70-067 Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 (Paperback)
I have read reviews that state how people often overlook the real purpose of this book, but I have to disagree. On the back cover it states "If you took the MCP exam 70-067 today would you pass?" It also goes on to say that the book teaches you what to focus on for the exam. I am afraid that you can't just read the title and give a review. Those who have studied this book, understand it's contents and taken the exam will know better. This book is a good supplement to a good study guide, but certainly does not gauge how well you would do on the exam. I even seems to stay away from leading you to realistic exam questions at times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you want to pass?, November 15, 1999

This review is from: MCSE Readiness Review Exam 70-067 Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 (Paperback)
This alone won't get you by, but if you understand what the major concepts presented in the questions are then you will succeed. I used this to prepare me for the Server test and got 860. The questions presented cover all the areas you need to study and should know. Not just to pass the test, but to actually apply your knowledge. If you just want to be a paper MCSE, than I don't think this will help. Get a good technical book like Carter's Windows NT 4.0 MCSE study guide, the transcenders, and top it off with this book and you should know what you are doing. The exam cram series helps too . You will need a well rounded approach to get all the info about making the most of these certifications, (I know everyone is making $$ out of this), but we all want to get certified and make the big bucks ourselves. IF you want a little more preparation then get the book. The CD is great also. For this series, the CDs are sometimes better than the book.
