5.0 out of 5 stars The bible for learning about oriental diagnosis
"Reading the body", by W. Ohashi is a must read. From head to toe our bodies have external signs for internal troubles, and this book will show you how to find them to help yourself and others. "Reading the Body" is the one book that I always come back to as a reference. In fact, I'm buying my second copy of this book today since my first is worn...

Reading the Body was interesting, but not as informative as I thought it would be, I did learn quite a few things to watch for that I would have never know had I not read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book on reading the body's health, March 4, 2005

Mort is right. This book helps you to recognize what organs in your body are not working as well as they could be from diet, etc. Such as white dots people have under their eyes have to do with too much fat in the diet. White dots in the lips have to do with blood not flowing properly through the small intestines & poor digestion or food allergies. How your shoes are worn down even shows organ health, much less your nails (ridges mean a lot, shape, etc.), laugh lines have to do with digestion, lines between the eyes have to do with liver, etc., etc. etc. It is very true & I have had many of these signs & they have disappeared by changing my diet.
This book is laid out very simple for anyone to follow even with those who find their local newspaper hard to read due to complicated volcabulary. The MANY simple but accurate drawings make it easy to compare to your own body or friend's as well.

To the reviewer who doesn't believe, Chinese Medicine has been around for thousands of years & people are realizing it has many truths for it, especially for long-term diseases since they are due to the body being unable to deal with poor diet, environmental toxins, poor sleep habits, etc.
Many studies have proven it's not fat, sugar in a diet that kills you, it's the TYPE of fat or sugar. Many pacific islanders, Asians, Eskimos live on high fat diet but never had cancer or heart disease... not until we came around & introduced CANDY BARS... processed chemical-laded baked goods...
Has Western medicine cured cancer or heart disease? Even they admit most has to do these factors, but they make no money telling you to change your diet & no body wants to bother, they just want a pill that masks the body's attempts to let you know something is wrong before it's too late. Every day more people are finally getting off processed artificial foods and toxins because finally enough people know that is the culprit and spreading the word out verbally and their their good health & good moods.
Many studies have proven genetics does play 1/3 of your chance of getting cancer/diabetes, heart disease, but that leaves 2/3 up to your own lifestyle choices. If you have good health, you mind will work better, you daily mood will be better, therefore better work, more quality friends, and so on like dominoes for a happy, satisfying life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another way to see everyone, January 18, 2001
This review is from: Reading the Body: Ohashi's Book of Oriental Diagnosis (Compass) (Paperback)
This book is the first book I have read completely through and flipped it over and am 3/4ths through again. I now see everyone differently! after studying the body's different ways with oriental diagnosis for health problems. Mr Ohashi has many macro-micro theorys for all parts of the body not just the feet as in Reflexology. Outstanding book to go along with any accupressure material.

I found this book to be an excellent source of information. I especially appreciate how the author compares and contrasts western medicine with oriental medicine. That alone gave me a wonderful perspective to start with. If you are interested in alternative health and not fond of medical/pharmaceutical answers, this book is a super resource. The included body/organ diagrams are very helpful.

I have owned and used the information in this book for myself and my health clients for over fifteen years. Understanding your body through Ohashi's eyes offers freedom from chasing symptoms and becoming caught in a downward pharmaceutical spiral.

It is an excellent layman's introduction to Oriental analysis and draws the connecting dots to why you might have pain in your toe, stomach distress and infection in a tooth all during the same period of time. It's not that you are falling apart...it's one (possibly simple) problem running the connecting meridians of energy that exist within a body system. Fix the one thing and the rest heal on their own.

I purchased this (used) book as a gift for a client that needed to SEE illustrations to understand since I work with her over the phone and internet. She has been thrilled with the speed of delivery as well as the information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book to Supplement Oriental Diagnosis, January 13, 2010

I'm a second year oriental medicine student. I found this book to be a great help for basic diagnostic skills. He covers a lot of material in more depth than comparable other books I've read; however there is still a lot more I would like to know about certain topics - such as nail diagnosis. All in all though this book is definitely worth having as a supplement for your diagnostic skills.
