Short on comprehension,

This review is from: Reading Bridge: 4th Grade (Paperback)
I bought this book to help my son work on his reading skills over the summer. During the school year, I had noticed that he seemed to have trouble with questions that required more than just picking facts out of the reading. As he progressed through third grade, more and more of the questions in his reading book required more than superficial thought.
This book did not address reading comprehension at all. The short answer questions at the end of each reading required only a quick look at the story to answer. One of the more disappointing aspects of the readings was the poetry. My son really enjoys reading poetry and we have found that poems are a great tool to practice looking beyond the the surface of the words. The poems in this workbook, however, were elementary and simple. In all but a few poems, there just wasn't much to look at. If your child needs help picking out facts in readings, this workbook might help. If you are looking for practice with comprehension, keep looking. |
