What else is new in the literacy comprehension>,

This review is from: Reading First and Beyond: The Complete Guide for Teachers and Literacy Coaches (Paperback)
Overall the book presents some valuable applied materials for beginners. But the theoretical information is too slim. Considering the abundance of new research on the topic of comprehension and the difficulty for many teachers to adapt their teaching methods, publications such as these must be very current and advocate the highest standards. Half the book presents black line visual organizers that can be found in many other sources for free. The lesson plans do not inform the readers on the complexities of providing explicit instruction. Inquisitive and dedicated teachers who are looking for the best professional development materials dAlso, the book does not provide sufficient materials for kindergarten teachers. I would like to refer th reader to Leslie Morrow's book called "Using Children's Literature in Preschool to develop Comprehension". Unfortunately this book is not at the level of many other publications of the International Reading Association.

Good reference about Reading. It discusses NCLB and contains materials that are very useful for today's Reading teacher. Another resource for those taking the Reading certification exams.
