True Lies is essential reading for absolutely everyone. If you know any people who have a body(!) - this will help you immeasurably to know more about what they are really SAYING, even if they are sitting silently. Stu Dunn gives excellent context and overview for approaching body language in general, and highlights each chapter with essential tips that you can easily remember. For those who are familiar with the popular TV show, Lie to Me, you will be familiar with many terms, but this book will give you enough real research and knowledge to make it all understandable and therefore even more enjoyable. Professionals and novices will appreciate True Lies as it provides both an overview, and sufficient details for learning subtle points, plus it is full of handy reference charts and photos. Stu's writing style is VERY READABLE and enjoyable, with just enough touches of humor and personal perspectives to give you an extra, genuine smile.

Much of this material is available in Stu's online study course through SDL. As a student of his and now expert in micro-expression detection myself, I can't recommend highly enough the benefits that you will forever receive. For those particularly interested in deception detection, your assumptions will turn in to knowledge very soon as you will KNOW what you are looking at and what meanings can, and can't, be inferred from various macro and micro body language and vocal cues. You will never perceive anyone quite the same way after learning the truth about body language, and most CAN be learned through simply enjoying the reading True Lies.

I chose this rating because I feel this is a fair rating.

What I like about this book is it is well written and easy to understand. It will help me to dealing with all types of people and knowing a better way to understand a person through reactions of the person.

I would recommend this book for people who are in business or for others who need to learn how to read other people for your protection.

While I'm sure the author has done extensive research, his writing is pretty terrible. This book is a jumbled mess of ideas and subpar grammar. The author focuses more on emotions and feelings than he does on body language and deception recognition and even throws in his philosophy on smiling as a way to overcome depression. (Huh?!) Some of the content was almost insulting in its simplicity while other concepts were far too complicated for a beginner to understand. This is obviously a self-published book that might have been a decent read with the help of a talented editor. I would recommend What Every BODY is Saying by Joe Navarro as a more polished and thorough introduction to the study of body language.

Horrible book. Mr. Dunn actually cites Wikipedia...my 10 year old kids understand not to cite Wikipedia in their school papers.
Lots of speculation; lots of third party information taken from other authors/researchers. Save your money on this book.

Just started reading it, only on the first chapter but find it very interesting. Some parts are technical and that is ok but even though I have read quite a few books on this subject I am finding new things. I am finding that it takes a little getting used to, for instance I keep wanting to correct his spelling because he is from New Zealand and the US differs on a few words, so that gets a little funny! But the information is great, makes we want to learn. We will see how I feel when I finish.
