5.0 out of 5 stars In Search of Rational Thinkers
This book is an introdution to the discourse urgently needed in all muslim communities. It discusses important issues in a very clear, concise, and contemporary manner. It has given me the desire to use common sense in my practice of Islam, and not the 'arabasized version' of Islam being followed by so many muslims. May we have more thinkers in the newer generations to...

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware of New Age Scientism and Pseudo Itellectual Bias
Yet another pathetic attempt to reinterpret final revelation based on one's whims and desires.

Qur'an is a book of guidance for people of taqwa (translated as a state of God consciousness and constant awareness). Approach this book with utmost humility, seeking true guidance from none other than the Almighty and willing to obey and surrender. This is the...

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent analysis of the Qur'an, January 27, 2015
This review is from: Reading the Qur'an: The Contemporary Relevance of the Sacred Text of Islam (Hardcover)
This is an excellent analysis of the Qur'an. It's thoughtful, well researched and cogent. I can't imagine it's the sort of thing that will go down well with the lunatics in the Muslim world who are all too keen on extremist positions and their corresponding brothers in the non-Muslim world whose xenophobia and Islamophobia is matched only by their ignorance. Anybody who is interested in Islam should pick this book up

This is the essence of Islam.

There are way better expositions, commentaries, explanations and other books related to Qur'an. This is the age of not only Scientific Revolution but also of Scientism. The visible and perceptible world is only a small fraction of the reality. Everything beyond that is al-ghayb. While science, of necessity, deals only with the perceptible world, scientism insists that that is all there is to it. In rationalism doubt is elevated as an epistemological method by which the rationalist and the secularist believe truth is arrived at. But there's no proof that it is doubt and not something else that enables one to arrive at truth. The arrival of truth is in reality the result of guidance, not of doubt. Qur'an is a book of guidance. So learn from the seekers of guidance, people who know Islam and live Islam.

1.0 out of 5 stars False Teaching Beware, July 17, 2012
This review is from: Reading the Qur'an: The Contemporary Relevance of the Sacred Text of Islam (Hardcover)
Reading this book I thougth I would get a much better understanding the Qur'an, because I wish to become fully rigtheous before God. This wasn't the case the writing of this book is strictly baise in his so called mordern day view of the Qur'an. I was not happy at all on some his views on sexual inpurities, and a long list of other things That i not fit for honorable Muslims to take in. I think it best for someone to gain a better insight of God's message from the the book itself and not from secular writer expressing from a contemporary view. All praise the one true God!!!
