This is an excellent resource for helping children/students become better readers, and can be used by teachers, tutors, and parents. "The Reading Teacher's Survival Kit" provides strategies and materials that can be used in carrying out a balanced reading instruction program based on whole language instruction, and skills instruction, with a focus on phonics. The underlying philosophy of this book is that all children, even those with special needs, can learn to become better readers with appropriately paced instruction. The book is well-organized and quite comprehensive, providing invaluable insights to teachers and parents as to how to empower children to become better and more proficient readers.
