From School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up--A satisfactory companion to William Golding's famous fable. Like the other titles in the series, it begins with a biography of the author. The body of the book consists of lengthy excerpts from important critical essays on Lord of the Flies. The 18 selections are introduced with a brief summary of their major points and are often edited to "accommodate...young adults." Compared to the "Twentieth Century Views" series (Macmillan) and "Modern Critical Interpretations" (Chelsea), this predigested format of critical analysis may seem a bit overprocessed. But there is a definite need in many libraries for critical materials suitable for less academically talented readers. Swisher's book suits that purpose.
