This book exceeded my expectations: the writings were diverse, well selected, and spanned the centuries. I figured, based on the title, there would be longer chapters and fewer authors. However, I found myself reading the gamut of authors with enthusiasm: from historic to contemporary, theological exposition to every day living, the plain/conservative to worldly/general conference types. Christians will be convicted and challenged by this book. The bibliography and index of writers just makes the book even better, interested readers can press on to find other writings by the authors who made it into this book.

This is a great book for folks who would like to read what the Mennonite - Anabaptist think about themselves, and life in general. It covers a lot of years, from the 1500's to the 1990's. What I really like is that it is laid out like a devotional, with an "insight" for every day of the year. The book has a wide verity of authors, from Moms to Elders, Old & New, and from all over the world. Each one shares a nugget from their Faith for us to learn from and ponder. If you are looking for a book about the Anabaptist heritage from folks that have lived it, this is the book. I recommend this one! |
