Terrible company -- beware. Free tech support leads to a voicemail that is ignored (or full). ' I've been waiting a week for them to generate the required install code, even though I have a physical copy with a serial number.

I bought the full product after a "light" copy was provided with one of my printer/scanners. Going back and forth between the documentation on the screen and the software itself is a pain. The documentation is not clear and answers are hard to find. I had hopes that Amazon would have a book on using ReadIRIS, but no such luck. The process of the program "learning" to recognize the text is long and painful. An 8 page document took me almost half an hour.

I did not purchase this through Amazon but came here to check out the reviews. I downloaded the software online. Having used it to convert about 10 OCR files I found the process quite hit and miss. It does actually work but is appalling at file handling. I found I had to exit the program altogether inbetween file conversions in order to get it to pick up the new input file otherwise, no matter how many times I tried to select the new input file name, it would default to the old input file name (so I kept converting the same file over and over!).It appeared to select the right file name but would just substitute the old one whilst performing the conversion.Seems pretty basic to be able to browse file names on disk, select and process. Also sometimes it would just halt at the end of the conversion and not request an output filename so I had to repeat the process until I could create the correct output file name - again a bit hit and miss.
However once I figured out the anomalies in the software it was useful. I had tried using some free online OCR conversion software and it was long and tedious, often hanging, and then saying online resource busy please try again later. At least this was very quick when it worked. You do of course have to carefully check the output document and then edit out any bad characters.
