5.0 out of 5 stars The Gospels according to Charlton, November 10, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Reads From the Life & Passion of Jesus Christ (Audio CD)
This is an early 1960s work done by Mr. Heston inspired by his role in "The Ten Commanments". The original was recorded on four "LP" record albums, reduced to two CDs for the modern medium, which covered the Bible from Genesis to Abraham; and the life of Jesus, the Christ. Slave Spirituals and familiar old religious "standards" provide a an ideal musical backdrop for Mr. Heston's verbal characterizations.
Of the four readings, The Life of Christ is the most moving, passages of which seep their way into your memory. The blending of the four Gospels becomes one continuous thread of the story that changed the world. It's almost as if Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John got together to create a condensed version of their books and retained Mr. Heston to record the resulting work. You find yourself re-playing this story, humming the music, quoting the verses that touch your mind and soul.
For someone who has trouble remembering chapter and verse, this is an easy volume to utilize. It is also the original "books on tape"/"audio book", more than a generation ahead of today's works on more convenient forms.
The two discs belong on every religious book shop shelf. Newcomers to the faith will find it especially helpful and pique their interest in further research of the Bible.
