Editorial Reviews

Applying a little sass and whimsy to the story of a very public, humiliating heartbreak, Cindi Madsen transforms a left-at-the-altar story into sweet and subtle rom-com gold. With a sprinkling of LOL moments, a solid dose of hopeful romance, and a romantic hero who might cause you to try to cheat the house if it meant he might tackle you on your way out of the casino,Ready to Wed is a fun, sweet, and playful romantic comedy with heart -- a fantastic pick for your beach or poolside reading.
~Serena Chase, USA Today HEA
I was completely taken in with this feisty and extremely colorful girl. This is an adorable character you will be a long time forgetting. I absolutely loved READY TO WED and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a truly brilliant and captivating story. Cindi Madsen's tales never disappoint! - Kay, Fresh Fiction
"Cindi Madsen pulls the reader into a charming, sweet and romantic storyline about two people who belong together. READY TO WED is a breath of fresh air." ~ Sandy, The Reading Cafe

Without it, she'd be even crazier. She has way too many shoes but can always find a reason to buy a new pretty pair, especially if they're sparkly, colorful, or super tall. She loves music, dancing, and wishes summer lasted all year long. She lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children.

In a nutshell:

Dakota Hallifax is 100% type A. (Having those tendencies myself, I appreciate this.) So being a wedding planner is readytowedpretty much the perfect occupation for her. But how do you plan the biggest wedding of your career when your wedding just crashed and burned with a no-show groom?

Just when Dakota is sure that her life is a total mess, her childhood best friend Brendan West moves back to town. He helps her pick up the pieces.

The Good:

There’s a lot that I loved about this book. I’m a total sucker for happily ever afters, and this book has an awesome one. No, I won’t tell you what it is.

Beyond that, I like Dakota. I can relate to being something of a control freak and can sympathize with her mother issues. I also like the fact that in spite of the utter blow of having her fiance stand her up at their wedding (mental note: do not get married on a cruise, because awkward if it doesn’t work), she doesn’t completely fall apart.

True, I wanted to slap her when she actually considered giving the jerk another chance, but really, who can blame her? Been there, done that.

Then there’s Brendan. Who doesn’t love a genuinely nice guy? Especially one who swoops in with a nice broad set of shoulders just when you need them? It doesn’t hurt that he’s a hottie and wears suits to work ;)

Jillian, Dakota’s catering bestie, is awesome. She’s all snarky and no nonsense. She’s the kind of friend that everyone needs at least one of. Completely supportive in every way, but doesn’t pull punches or sugarcoat things.

I also love her color coding system for bride moods. It’s kind of awesome and I may just steal it for my personal mood ring.

My Review:
I had so much fun reading this book and there is one reason for it...Dakota. The entire book is told from her point of view and she has a normal girl point of view with the additional benefit of the fact that she's a wedding planner and spends her days dealing with life's trials.

Dakota's life is not perfect. In fact, right now her life is completely in the toilet. The book starts with her standing in her wedding dress outside of the cruise ship in Jamaica waiting for her fiance who doesn't show. As a wedding planner, this is worse than her worst nightmare. Everything about her daily job is making sure that disasters like this don't happen and to have it happen to her is less than acceptable. The rest of the book is her coming to terms with that and finding out what she really needs out of her life.

Dakota is an OCD planner and list-maker. Those things that make her a good wedding planner make her life impossible for her to live with when everything is out of control for her. In the middle of her life breakdown, her childhood friend, Brendan, moves back to Vegas. Brendan gets her in a way that no one else in her life ever does. I loved them together and just how good he was for her. Talk about someone who is keyed into another person. Brendan is that person for Dakota. But that doesn't make it all smooth sailing for the two of them. Dakota has had her trust of everything she believes in...herself, the power of love, her ability to trust other people....completely blown away and that kind of thing doesn't heal overnight.

This book was simply a good, fun, entertaining read. There were moments of humor (several of them came at the anger management meetings...

I love a romance like Ready to Wed that is more character driven. You bond with the characters and the lead long before you start yearning for a romance. Plus this story seemed to be unique because it’s sort of a love triangle but not in the conventional way. This is someone who had her life uprooted and now thinks maybe things happen for a reason and she should really figure out if this is what she still wants.

Forgiving is one thing but forgetting is something completely different. When you’ve been hurt in a relationship it takes away some of the innocence. You maybe forgive that person but that shadow now exist. I’m not saying you can’t get past it because you can, I’ve had to do it myself. I thought it was interesting to have that component in this story though. Grant isn’t some evil devil but he definitely effed up big time. Does he have a good reason, debatable, did he execute it properly, absolutely not. I really liked the way Cindi handled it. It’s so easy to get stuck on a runaway train to the altar that you might not realize it’s the correct path for you, until after the fact. I’m speaking from experience so I think it’s one of the reason I loved this plot so much. I thought it was super easy to relate to.

Dakota is a great character and I loved how the book takes her on a journey discovering what she really wants. I love how well we get to know her and not just from her inner dialogue but also the bond she has with her dad and her best friend Jillian. Also from the trial and tribulations that she goes through with her mother her. Plus her unexpected friendship with Wild Bill. You get to see so many facets of her. I also really like that Dakota is both sporty and girly.

The romance in the book is great.
