Best of... ??,

My best guess is that somebody needs some spending money, because they only have 2 CDs out to begin with (which are both excellent). There are only a few songs missing, if you have one of the CDs already, just buy the other one instead of wasting money on this.

Yeah, great songs on here. Only problem is that the members of republica didn't even know about it until AFTER it came out, so I won't be buying it. If you're interested in Saffron (the lead singer), check out S W A R M, her new project. Ciao.

What happened?! I was "ready to go" for a 3rd album!,

Republica's self-titled album (1996) is one of my favorite listens, every track flows together and connects styles, energy, and unique vocal flavor. I love Saffron and I enjoyed their follow-up "Speed Ballads." I'm only saddened that this Best-Of collection seems to imply that they won't be putting anything else out. If you have the CD's, it's a waste of money. But if you don't, it's a cheap way to get lots of great electronica songs you'll get addicted to fast. I don't know what's going on with the band, but I'll cross my fingers anyway that maybe they will release something new at some point.

Now Republica. 1996. The Halcyon Days. I've talked with everyone from 1-900 operators to first responders and they all pretty much agree, we were WAY better off in the '90s then we are now. And this here album brings me back to those days, when we were footloose as a goose and always up for a good time. For the longest time, my favorite song by them was the original mix of Ready to Go, but as time has marched on, From Rush Hour With Love has usurped it. Saffron is so hot and that voice. Oh Maron! A quick aside, I was fortunate enough to be romantically linked-albeit briefly-to a woman who did a spot on impression of her, but I digress...
This is a breezy ride down memory lane and a great disc to have on while commuting, working, or even working out. A shame they didn't last longer. But hey, we'll always have '96. Here's looking at you Gen-X :) |
