Book Description

September 25, 2008
When relationships become a "drug," love hurts. Perhaps you, like many others, are experiencing the pain of an addictive relationship-the kind of relationship that's painful to be in, yet impossible to leave. It may be your first such relationship, or you may have found yourself in a pattern that you just can't seem to break. Author Kelly McDaniel walks the reader through an honest and impactful assessment of how women get into these relationships to begin with, and a walk through the road to recovery.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Ready to Heal is an essential guide for women struggling with how to be emotionally healthy and remain emotionally stable in an intimate relationship. The book gives readers a theoretical understanding of negative relationship patterns illustrated through real women s experiences. More than any single book I know, Ready to Heal gives women working through difficult times all the tools to dispel the darkness. --- Sue William Silverman, author, Love Sick: One Woman s Journey Through Sexual Addiction and Because I Remember Terror, Father, I Remember You

Kelly McDaniel clearly describes the crucial connections between childhood trauma, incest, and isolation that too often lead to addictive behavior, sexual confusion, and painful relationships. She shows how healing the wounds beneath addictions provides the true path to healing. --Charlotte Sophia Kasl, Ph.D., author of Women, Sex, and Addiction: A Search for Love and Power; Yes, You Can! Overcoming Trauma and Addiction

In a gentle and respectful manner, Kelly invites any woman to honor her authentic self rather than stay in the shame associated with behaviors that no longer work to relieve emotional pain. Not only can the reader learn ways to stop the addictive behavior, she can also discover how to rebuild a healthier life that respects the difficult journey on which many women have traveled. I highly recommend this book. --M. Deborah Corley, PhD. Founder and co-owner of Santé Center for Healing, Co-author of Disclosing Secrets and Embracing Recovery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Hopeful November 23, 2009
Women who are suffering from the shame and fear that accompanies sex, love and relationship addiction will find this book a wonderful road map to healing. Ms. McDaniel has clearly defined how cultural sterotypes have played such a role in the development of sexual self esteem in women and how that core issue gets played out over and over again in dead end relationships and repetitive trauma to the spirit. I will highly recommend this book to all my clients.

kelly mcdaniels book is ground breaking. it answers so many of the questions women have around sex, relationships and why it is all so difficult in a way that no one has before. ready to heal looks at all the factors many women experience, but aren't aware of, and explains how this impacts a woman not just around sex but in her life. the writing is incredibly honest, and can at times be emotionally hard to read, but it is what women need to look at, to heal and recover. i refer all my female sex and love addicted patients to the book.

The silence surrounding female sexual addicts is deafening. Kelly McDaniel shatters that silence with a well-timed book that helps women thus affected find a path that leads to healing. This book fills a great void and offers hope for women who struggle with compulsive sexual behavior. I recommend it in my therapy practice.
