I've never danced in my life, so when I discovered my girl friend (and hopefully future wife :-) loves to swing dance, I found myself with a huge challenge. My first night of lessons with the local swing dance club was nothing short of overwhelming, and to be honest I did really bad. I've since tried practicing to a number of swing music songs out of two 5-disc swing collections, but things didn't start falling in place until I stumbled on this CD and gave it a try. For me, this CD is perfect. Unlike the other CDs with old scratchy recordings, these are up-to-date, crisp, performances with great vocals to go with it. The songs feature a variety of instruments including electric guitar, sax, piano, organ, and horns. Even better, the 6 songs are arranged from slow tempo (96 bpm) to fast (140 bpm). This allows me to work on steps at a slow pace, and then gradually speed them up. Some of the songs have some syncopated sections as well that test whether I can stay with the beat and not lose my place in a 6-step pattern. So, I'd say this is a great CD for anyone getting started with Lindy or similar swing dancing.

At first I didn't like the CD because it seemed too slow, but after giving it a chance its now one of my favorites. Tuey Connell and the Chicago Drum Company combine blues and jazz on the album. The first song "Thats the Trouble With Us" is more Blues, but it becomes more jazzy as you head to the end. As I said at first it is a slower set of songs, but as a dance instructor they have been valuable in teaching students how to dance. It is also great break from some of the faster swing songs when having a dance. The music is even great for listening in the car. (Note: music includes vocals)
