Review

Ready for Love is a beautiful and inspiring love story. I was riveted to the pages of Ready for Love not only for this magical romance but for the outstanding secondary plot lines as well. This may be my first McCarthys of Gansett Island book but it will not be my last! I am in love with these people and the tiny island they live on. —

From the Author

Welcome back to Gansett Island for Luke and Sydney's story! As a wife and mother, this one really touched my heart. Sydney's losses are simply unimaginable, but thanks to Luke's devotion she might be ready to take a second chance on love. I so hope you enjoy their story as much as I enjoyed writing it. You'll also get to catch up on some of your favorite characters from the first two books and meet some newcomers to the island.
READY FOR LOVE continues the story begun in MAID FOR LOVE and FOOL FOR LOVE. Next up is FALLING FOR LOVE, featuring Grant McCarthy, and then HOPING FOR LOVE, featuring Evan McCarthy, and then SEASON FOR LOVE, featuring Laura McCarthy, and LONGING FOR LOVE, featuring Tiffany Sturgil, all of which are now available. You can look forward to stories for Adam McCarthy, Jenny Wilks and Shane McCarthy as well as other characters you'll meet in future books.
Writing about this family and their life on an island so much like my beloved Block Island has been about the most fun I've ever had as a writer. Thank you so much for embracing my fictional family and for all the lovely reviews you've posted. I appreciate your e-mails and Facebook posts more than you'll ever know. A special thank you to my friend--and "conference husband"--Mike Myers, who proofread the final version of READY FOR LOVE. All remaining mistakes should be blamed on him. (Just kidding!)
I'm grateful every day to have such wonderful, supportive readers and writing friends who make my life as an author such a joyful journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. And as always, to the family that puts up with me and all my eccentricities, you guys are simply the best.
xoxo

Ready for Love is the third book in the McCarthy's of Gansett Island series. This one will require a kleenex to complete! The heroine has had a horrible tragedy occur in her life and the hero in the book helps her through this difficult time. Several other secondary characters are introduced and Grant McCarthy, who appears to be the hero in book four gets some time in this book. Ms. Force, as usual, draws you in with strong character development as always. Romance abounds in this book that is a perfect summer read. If you haven't read Marie Force or this series I advise you to pick up one of her books and get hooked as I have. I can't wait for book four of the series!

This is the third book of the series: McCarthy's of Gansett Island by this wonderful author. I have read all her books and they all seem to captivate you with their stories and characters. This book was no exception. You don't need to read all the books in the series, they could stand on their own, but it helps with the history of some of the characters present. This is the story of Syd and Luke, who were once very much in love when they were teenagers. Syd would come back every summer and her relationship with Luke would continue, until one summer, she stopped coming and broke his heart. Syd moved on, got married, had a family of her own. She hasn't been back to the island until a terrible tragedy happens in her life and she loses her family. Luke never seemed to forget her and knowing she was back on the island, stirred lots of different emotions: he wanted to comfort her, be with her, but at the same time, he wanted answers, confront her, he was definitely torn.

This is a story about second chances, helping a person you love overcome tragedy, finding love again, a new outlook in life and friendships. This book was well written and emotionally captivating. It had humor, tons of romance, drama, sadness and joy. Reading this book will warm your heart; perfect summer reading! I can't wait to read Grant's book. Thank you Ms. Force for writing such wonderful stories and keeping your fans entertained!

This is one of my favorite romantic series and I won't hesitate to buy any future additions. I also greatly appreciate that this is a "loanable" (is that a word?) book. Great job by Ms. Force.

My Review:
Overall... 3.5 star
Performance.... 4.0 star
Story... 3.5 star

This is one of those books that I honestly think I would have enjoyed more if I'd read it rather than listened to it. And I can honestly say that I think this is the first book that I've found that I felt that way about. There's a lot of emotion to this book and listening to it on audio, I think that I lost some of that emotional connection I would have found if I'd been reading the book to myself. I'm not sure why, but it was something I noticed for the first time when listening to this audio.

And there is a lot of emotion to this book. Sydney lost her entire family, two children and a husband, in a car wreck. When she got involved with her husband, she broke Luke's heart. At the time, she was looking for someone with more ambition and money than Luke brought to the table. It hurt him horribly because Sydney was the girl for him. Now that she's back on the island, he can't resist the allure of her.

I had a hard time with Sydney at times. She broke Luke's heart and so many times throughout the story, it almost felt like she was toying with him. I loved Luke's character and hurt so much for him when she would pull back.

There are several close call/emotional points in this book, but there is one point that I really had an issue with where Sydney put her dog in front of Luke. They are both hurt and I understand why the dog is important to her, but I still think she should put Luke first.

I didn't find this book as riveting as the other two I've listened to in the series, but it was still an entertaining read.

I am really loving this series, although if I'm being honest...I like the first two books better than this one. Don't get me wrong.... this was a very good book, but there was just something about this book that I found a little lacking. I loved Luke and had no problem with him at all but... Sydney is a whole other thing.

Yes, she went through a very tragic time in her life. And yes, I know it takes time to get over something like that. Sometimes people don't ever get past something like that, so maybe I should at least give her credit for trying to move on, but IMO- she needs to make sure she's ready to do that, before she starts something she's not willing or able to finish...

Maybe it was the wishy washy way that Sydney acted towards Luke that has me so out of sorts. One minute she was acting fine and she thought that Luke walked on water, but then the next minute she was doubting his every move. She said she was ready to move on and the next thing you know, she turns around and questions everything she does. And if she truly is ready to move on, why does she continue to keep comparing the life she has now, to the one that was taken away?

I felt like screaming at her to either get it together, or get the heck out of Luke's life for good. Luke loves her so much and he doesn't deserve to be hurt again, like she hurt him the first time around.

And her parents...boy, don't even get me started on them. I think it was very wrong of them to act the way they did 17 years ago. Judging someone only based on their wealth or education is so wrong on many levels. And it bothered me even more, that Sydney went along with it.

Yes I know she was only 19 years old at the time, but a lot of young people make major decisions on their own at that age.
