Kindergarten-Grade 4 Lauber tells clearly and accurately what robots can and can not do now, and then moves on to what we hope they will be able to do in the future. She describes both small versions like the Turtle and large factory robots. Lauber then attempts to explain the limitations of what robots can be programmed to ``see'' and do, and why some robots still need human control. This should answer many students' questions, and at the same time draw a clear line between what is factually true and what is speculatively possible. Kelley's simple black outline drawings filled with flat colors brighten every page and clearly illuminate the facts of the text. Carol Greene's Robots (Childrens, 1983), for the same age group, also gives a history of robots and automata and has photographs of varying quality. Sylvia S.
