5.0 out of 5 stars How a Martian discovered Romance, February 13, 2003
By

This review is from: Ready for Romance: Hot Lips, Full Throttle, and 89 More Ways to Keep Love Alive (Paperback)
Ok, I;m from Mars, I admit it. I thought the suggestions in this book were just corny when I first got it and scanned it.
Then, I started to get the idea that there was a woman's AND a man's point of view in here , like therapy from a couple for a couple, but much cheaper than $ 100 bucks and hour. Even better, these ideas work! I learned that my wife doesn't really like gifts like a new vacuum - but LOVES it if I volunteer to do the vacuuming even once. I learned that to show APPRECIATION in little ways, even to just say " I appreciate that in you" changes the attitude of the room. After 20 years of marraige, when simple politeness is a stretch and romance seems pretty impossible , this stuff makes even ME appealing! Look, she's smiling at me!

But, guys, be careful, don't try too many of these too soon, or she'll think that you're having an affair. You're just being nice to hide something! Or, "hey, what the heck has come over you?" Or, " who have you been talking to? that drunken pal of yours, Fred, doesn't send flowers to HIS wife where she works , does he?" yeah, well, he does now! and it works for him, too.

Never underestimate flowers at the door or a card when there's no occasion.

See ? I'm becoming a romantic. And , the BIG Surprise is, it's fun! Get the book; thank me later.

4.0 out of 5 stars It made me feel old, February 14, 2003

This review is from: Ready for Romance: Hot Lips, Full Throttle, and 89 More Ways to Keep Love Alive (Paperback)
The ideas in the book to add Romanticism to your
relationship and marriage were very enlightening
and entertaining. The main insight I got from
reading this book is how little effort my wife and
I put into adding a different level of excitment
and intimacy into our marriage with creative ideas
of surprise an newness(is that a word)?
I am surprising her tonight with dinner and dancing
for Valentine's day which is the first in the
eight years of marriage. Sure flowers show up
once in awhile butg never to the extent of the
ideas in this book. My wife and I have become
familiar and comfortable with our daily routine,
which does not mean it isn't great, but this
book has given me ideas on how to take it to
another level. Hold on to your hat (or skirt)
here I go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romance at its Best!, March 30, 2003
By

This review is from: Ready for Romance: Hot Lips, Full Throttle, and 89 More Ways to Keep Love Alive (Paperback)
Ready for Romance is a great way to keep your love life alive with your partner on many levels. Its a book you can read together and actually talk about candidly with your significant other when wanting to spice up your love life and break away from your daily routines. Each story is strait and to the point and gets the readers mind ready to think about how he/she can act a certain way or do a certain gesture to show their special someone how much they actually do care. This book also shows how geography and social status is irrelevant and that all you need is a little creativity and genuine affection. You really get a lot for your money in this book. I thank the authors for putting this out on the market!

The book provided unique ideas and thoughts for keeping passion and love alive! It is so easy to loose or forget that original passion and love a realtionship has in it's early stages. This book can extend that passion with tips, ideas, and ways, possibly for a life time. A must for lovers that want to stay fresh. It opened up a whole new serries of activities and goals to keep that warm feeling alive where a couple can grow together. I wish I had this book in past relationships, it could have made a difference! I feel strongly that what I have learned from what I have read, it will in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Friends, Romance, Countrymen, February 13, 2003

What does it take to liberate us from the psychic weight of the ongoing threat of war? The faith in the power of love. Jimmy and Leslie Caplan have entered the peace movement by introducing "Ready for Romance" an entertaining collection of the stories that confirm that our hearts are still more powerful when they work together. Like vitamins for the romantically hopeful the stories are potently inspiring and offer insight to ideas and techniques that enrich our own unique partnership passions.

Is the book the perfect thing for Valentine's Day or is Valentine's Day the perfect thing for this book? I recommend this book for anyone who still believes that relationships are ships that should not only stay afloat but set their sails on the high sea's of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Romance Book I've Ever Read, February 13, 2003
By
Rick Eisenberg (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ready for Romance: Hot Lips, Full Throttle, and 89 More Ways to Keep Love Alive (Paperback)
When a good friend of mine told me she had read Ready For Romance and was all but floored by the book's humor, originality and effectiveness, I said, "Please! Not another romance book!" But, after checking the book out for myself, I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that I enjoyed the book even more than she.

Perhaps the first thing that struck me about Ready for Romance is that it is highly entertaining: Rather than merely offering romantic advice, the book offers tried and true "recipes" that the authors and their close friends and associates over the years have used to cook up some pretty steamy love. In other words, we'er not talking theory here, we're talking experience.
Second, in a word, the Caplans are very funny. I'm not certain whether it's Jimmy's long background as a stand-up comedian, or Leslie's influence as a well-travelled mother of four, but the combination of the two makes for some very entertaining, yet warm humor which carried me happily through the read.

Third, the structure of the book is enticingly original: By separating the recipes into several very different chapters (my favorite was "Zensational"), the reader can easily choose the type of romantic ideas that are right for him or her. After all, there's no sense in taking a hot air balloon ride with your amour when the two of you would actually be far more comfortable gazing into each other's eyes in a small, intimate lunch spot.

But best of all, Ready For Romance has a certain generosity, an optimism, that I found almost intoxicating. It's so darn positive, you feel as if the outside world and its complications are no more difficult to deal with than a barking dog down the street. Somehow, the Caplans convince you that romantic bliss is not only possible, but it's inevitable if you only get in contact with the playful part of you that you've probably been supressing for a heck of a long time. In my case, that suppresion was a pretty well-oiled mechanism, but after reading Ready For Romance, I have to admit -- I feel considerably more relaxed, positive -- and romantic -- than I have in quite some time.

A great read!
