Bottom line, our goal is to help suppliers, especially new suppliers, since their resources are usually more limited. There is little if any definitive, experienced-based information available on this subject which has led to people being taken advantage of with little to show for it. This book is our way of helping them by giving straight answers and providing ways that they can quickly assess where they are in the process. We even include an "Are You Really Ready for Retailers?" checklist which includes 19 questions every aspiring supplier should be able to answer before attempting to meet with a retailer.
Ready, Set . . . Whoa! Are You Really Ready for Retailers follows last falls release of our groundbreaking report, "Ten Supplier Mistakes that Give Your Competition the Edge." In that report, we identified the top ten mistakes that often jeopardize an established suppliers relationship with major retailers. The list struck a chord with so many suppliers and retailers especially since, in the days of shrinking vendor bases and direct sourcing, product innovation and technology upgrades alone wont guarantee a long-term supplier advantage. We felt compelled to write a book specifically for start ups that would keep them from making these critical mistakes and help them plan their launch before it is too late.
