5.0 out of 5 stars Good for fishing piers, etc
Amazon's description is not very complete, so I thought I would add a few things:

The rod is 7 feet long. The label says it's Medium/Heavy Action. It is intended for 12-30 Lb line and weights of 1-3 oz.

The reel is mid sized and holds 275 yards/12 lb line, or 185yd/17lb or 110yd/25lb. The reel is loaded with monofilament that looks a little...

I was at Coney Island wanting to fish and begging my dad for a rod. Eventually he bought me this for my birthday. I was a complete nnovice but realized that the rod handle kept on falling out. Eventually The handle fell into the water because there was no bback to the handle holding it in. I bought a cheaper smaller reel and have used it with success catchinng Largemouth...

The reel is mid sized and holds 275 yards/12 lb line, or 185yd/17lb or 110yd/25lb. The reel is loaded with monofilament that looks a little lighter than 20lb. I'd guess it to be about 15lb???

Everything looks like it's well made. I haven't fished with it yet, but I'm predicting it will not cast as far as my 13ft Alvey! It would be better for piers where long casts are unnecessary and the Alvey would just be in the way. From the beach, it should be fine for casting into the first set of breakers. Some people prefer a lighter outfit for surfperch, but I fish in heavy surf and like a rod that casts bigger weights than a trout rod.

The tackle box is surprisingly well stocked, but the stuff is too heavy for West Coast surf fishing. It will be more usable if you live on the East Coast or anyplace that has big fish in the surf.

The price was the best part. It does all that it claims at a reasonable price. I got this as an easy to pack surf rod. My regular rod took up the trunk leaving no room for luggage.

Bought as a gift. Not high end by any means, but $250 is a little crazy for a beginner. Nice little tackle box with lures, weights, etc. I would recommend this.
