Bar set too high,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Who is Ready for a Spiritual Promotion (Paperback)
Reading this book was not a pleasant experience. That does not mean the book is no good or that Pastor Renner is wrong. I would say,if a person does not have a handle on being righteous by faith and not by works or behaviour; then this book will bury them in self condemnation!!
The author admits that he was raised in a perfectionist home where the lawns were trimmed with scissors and that this attitude of high expectations will come through in his writing. He makes no excuses for setting the bar so high however as he believes that to be promoted spiritually or in business one needs to exhibit the kind of heart attitude and striving for excellence that he presents. Many may struggle with this because they see themselves as falling way short of the standard set by scripture and by the author. To be honest, I was required to read this book for a Bible course otherwise I would probably have never bought it! I recommend simply seeking the Lord Jesus daily in the word of God and with prayer in the spirit trusting God to change you from the inside out. Books like this one tend to cause you to look at your behaviour trying to change yourself by will power alone. This is a sure way to become self righteous and put aside the grace of God. Dont do it! Rather, just come to the Father who already knows all that is in your life and let Him love you through change from the inside out. In conclusion, just follow Jesus through a relationship with the Holy Spirit speaking in tongues daily so that God Himself will change you from the inside. Then you will be prepared for promotion by God and not men. Don't buy this book.
