Taking the Tests by the Horns: The 22 activities here help students improve their scores on standardized high school and college admissions tests.

Just Plain Fun: This section contains a potpourri of 38 creative activities that have been favorites with students in the author's classes.

The activities in each section include a variety of formats-riddles, concealed quotations, unscrambling, mazes, crossword puzzles, cryptoquotes, word constructions, and more. Complete answer keys are included at the end of the book.

You'll find these activities ideal when you want to spark interest in a new topic, award extra credit, supply substitute teacher plans, or begin or end class with something different. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Handy & Excellent Resource, May 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: 201 Ready-to-Use Word Games for the English Classroom (J-B Ed: Ready-to-Use Activities) (Paperback)
As a secondary-level English Language, I find this book to be a wonderful resource for teachers. It contains a potpourri of word games that make language learning interesting and fun. Activities are varied and include riddles, crossword puzzles, mazes, word constructions etc. The book is divided into sections (including one on Literature) focusing on different aspects of the curriculum, and teachers will easily find an activity to suit their own needs and lesson plans, as well as cater to the abilities and standards of their students. An added advantage is that the book is printed in a big spiral-format that allows materials to be easily photocopied. This book will be a valuable and handy tool to the busy teacher, whether s/he is looking for materials to use as a filler in class, or to reinforce concepts taught.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Word Games, May 28, 2001
This review is from: 201 Ready-to-Use Word Games for the English Classroom (J-B Ed: Ready-to-Use Activities) (Paperback)
This book contains a gold mine of word games. However, many of the games were to complicated for my ninth graders. I enjoyed working them though!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent English Games, June 18, 2008
This review is from: 201 Ready-to-Use Word Games for the English Classroom (J-B Ed: Ready-to-Use Activities) (Paperback)
This is a very handy book for students in grades 9 - 12. My regular ed. and night school kids enjoyed the puzzles and games. A word of caution is needed, however - check for typos in each game before distributing to students because the proofreader was not very adept!
