4.0 out of 5 stars Great blast from the past
I always caught myself rocking out when "Oh Sheila" happened to come on the radio, and I had to go out and find this album. Reminds me of Prince and Morris Day/The Time. Very funky and very retro. It's a blast.

I don't own the album but I'll take Raven's word for it. Sounds like the best of Prince's filler songs, but if you're gonna emulate someone, Prince is a pretty good template obviously. "Oh Sheila" is catchy as all get-out.

Some good "Ol School" love songs and dance music. Debut album of this 80s R&B Band. Got to love the hair on the cover. Some good 2nd tier music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memories.....Slide step & dancing real close!!!, March 22, 2007
This review is from: Ready for the World (Audio CD)
To me, this is one of the best albums i owned back in the day. as always with me i was looking for the good dance songs to play( being a DJ ) and i didn't really focus on the slow jams. i was djing a party and a girl came up and requested a slow song and i really didn't have a lot ...i looked at my Ready For the world album and just picked one...that was "slide over"...Wow!!! the floor was full of couples. i then took a good look and found out that the whole album was filled with great "baby making love songs". A Virgin type love letter in "tonight"..."you're more woman than i ever seen, girl tonight"...that was the cut back in the day!...Everybody has had an out of town lover and this song helped us thru the long phone calls and gave us a dedication to our Ladies.they were the kings of the slow jam but they really brought it with JAMS that will never die like "Oh Shiela" and the "Digital Display"..."i never had a girl before...with much of a figure"....The group followed up with a few more albums and Melvin Riley ( the groups lead singer ) tried a solo project but they never captured the same magic as this first album although the second album is very good. this album is a prime example of the 80's music we were listening to back in Santa Paula,Ca. slow jams and doing the slide step from the video oh shiela...those are my memories from this album...thanks guys.... JC Cota [...]IF U DON'T OWN THIS ALBUM...WHAT ARE U WAITING FOR ...!

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic, October 31, 2002

RFTW is neither watered-down Prince or Michael Jackson! These cats could do things that a lot of today's artists only wish they could; playing some good, soulful, ORIGINAL music and making it funky! If only we had a modern day equivalent to RFTW, we would have to put up with all this garbage music people are putting out! This album is very enjoyable, and brings back some good memories.

Apart from the famous `OH SHEILA`, there are lots of good ballads like `TONIGHT`,`DEEP INSIDE YOUR LOVE`,`OUT OF TOWN LOVER` in this first album.

Well, I've had one foot in the closet and the other one on a banana peel about this issue so here goes...I actually like RFTW! Yes it's true. Even though it's watered down Prince, I managed to find some redeeming qualities anyway. Although now the music seems almost campy, over the years it has provided some cool memories so what the hay.

Some of my favorites are: "Tonight"/"Digital Display"/"Deep Inside Your Love"/"Oh Sheila"/"Out Of Town Lover"/"I'm The One Who Loves You."

I like some the music, it reminds me of the 1980's era. Thanks!
