The bat featured here is a big brown bat. These bats roost in caves in large numbers, making them easy targets for unscrupulous wildlife dealers who harvest them by the hundreds while they very much alive. When these bats are purchased from these wildlife dealers it only increases the trade. By buying and selling these specimens, you are not only causing the deaths of individual animals, you are contributing to the vast decline in wild bat populations as it encourages this continual killing by wildlife poachers. Additionally, selling these bats may be operating against Animal Welfare Act (AWA) regulations governing the sales of dead animals.

As primary predators of vast quantities of night-flying insects, including serious crop pests, big brown bats are important to the agricultural interests of our country. This North American species is already in rapid decline due to white nose syndrome, a disease that is wiping out millions of bats across N America. As a purportedly ethical society, it is time we moved beyond the practice of sacrificing bats and other healthy wildlife. Making these beneficial and valuable mammals into grotesque paperweights and novelty items is unjustified, unsustainable, and morally repugnant.

Bats are killed specifically to become a desk ornament. Only the most cruel and heartless of person would consider this a wonderful possession. Educate yourself about bats and all the good they do, as well as the hazards they face that are depleting their numbers, and hopefully you'll reconsider buying such a heinous item.

These bats....& all the other "preserved" animals you are selling....should be living in their environment. Not killed for profit & used as paperweights. Disgusting

If you love bats, please don't support a product that results in the cruel capture and killing of wild bats. In fact, I have plenty of good ideas for any bat lover - a trip to a reputable zoo, a book about bats, cute online bat videos, stuffed toy bats, or even a donation to a bat sanctuary that helps protect and preserve bat species in the wild.

Wild bats are an important part of our ecosystem, helping bees to pollinate the plants we need to survive. I recently stayed at a tropical eco-hotel that used a colony of bats as mosquito control around the hotel. I didn't get bitten once. They're good little creatures, so please think twice before helping to create demand for more dead bats.

How cruel and disgusting. If someone wants to learn about bats, get a video or learn online. Animals are caught and killed to make these horrible items.

The idea of displaying ANY animal like this is beyond disgusting! And since the odds of finding enough bats already dead to create a lucrative business only points to the fact that these innocent beings are being murdered just do someone can make money off of their deaths. Bats are essential to our ecology. Like bees, they aid in pollination as well as eating the insects that annoy you and harm farm crops. Animals are like children, they rely on us to protect them. Would you buy a baby in acrylic? Think about it.

... precisely what the other 1 star opinion wrote. This is not only cruel, but a pathetic display for humanity.
