AN INTERESTING BIBLICAL EXAMINATION OF THE BIRTH OF JESUS, December 9, 2011
This review is from: The Real Christmas Story: An Indepth Biblical and Historical Look Into the Truths Surrounding the Birth of Jesus (Paperback)
Paul R. Pontis is (was?) a Christian lay leader in Springfield, Ohio, and was the first president of the WEEC Christian radio station.
He wrote in the Introduction to this 1994 book that it represented a research project that spanned almost ten years, during which he "scuttled" almost every idea he ever had about the true story of Christmas. He decided to write the book, after discovering that others had the same misconsceptions.
He suggests (Pg. 87) that the Wise Men did NOT come to Jerusalem during the Holy family's stay in Bethlehem, and that upward to two years had elapsed since the birth of Jesus when they came. (Pg. 105)
He suggests (Pg. 95) that the reference in Mt. 2:1-3 to Jerusalem being "troubled" suggests that there were more than three Wise Men---perhaps a caravan.
Using 1 Chronicles and Luke 1, he computes Jesus' actual birth month as in October, not December. (Pg. 124-127)
This book has many interesting "historical" reflections on Jesus' birth and nativity.
