5.0 out of 5 stars SRV CD for the car., May 16, 2007

I own many SRV CDs but needed this one to have in my car at all times. Some of his best music is on this CD and it is great to have it handy on one CD. If you own a collection of SRV music this is not really needed unless you want a travel CD like I do. I find it necessary to have one. I mourn for him every time I play this CD and find it difficult to accept the fact that we will never hear the music we could have had if he had not left us so young. And I am grateful for the the music he did leave for us to enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is more like it!, April 13, 2009
This review is from: Real Deal: Greatest Hits 1 (Audio CD)
Much, much better than 1995's original tepid "Greatest Hits"-album, this is a terrific introduction to the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan.

A supremely strong and unusually varied collection of songs, "The Real Deal: Greatest Hits vol. 1" brings together 16 of Stevie Ray's best tunes, smouldering slow blues, melodic, swaggering R&B, and gritty blues-rock, all of it suprebly played and arranged by one of the few latter-day blues guitarists who was NOT overly hyped!
Most of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's best songs are here, including "Pride & Joy", "Cold Shot", the sizzling high-octane blues "Texas Flood", and the rollicking "The House is Rocking", and those that aren't here are on the equally excellent volume two.

Powerful, fiery covers of Guitar Slim's "The Things That I Used To Do" and Elmore James' "The Sky Is Crying" only adds to the appeal of this fine, well-packaged compilation.
By itself, "The Real Deal vol 1" can't match the double-disc "Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan", but get this one, and volume two as well, and you'll have the second-best Stevie Ray Vaughan-collection on the market. The best one is the "SRV" box set...!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vast improvement over the original "Greatest Hits", March 19, 2009
This review is from: Real Deal: Greatest Hits 1 (Audio CD)
This new compilation, when purchased together with "The Real Deal, Vol.2", provides newcomers to SRV a nice overview of his all too brief career. There was a "Greatest Hits" album released in 1995 which is way inferior to this release. Personally, I'm not a fan of greatest hits or best of compilations, and usually will only purchase them if I don't know much about the artist and want to get a sample of their music. So, if you aren't familiar with Stevie or are on a budget, by all means get this CD as every song on it is essential. But after hearing this, you will want to go out and get everything he ever recorded. I have all of his discs and couldn't imagine being without any of them. To me, SRV was the greatest guitar player to have ever graced us with his presence.

5.0 out of 5 stars RAVE ON!, March 21, 2011
By
Jukebox Dave (RECORD TOWN, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Real Deal: Greatest Hits 1 (Audio CD)
STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN & DOUBLE TROUBLE-THE REAL DEAL/GREATEST HITS: Stevie "Rave On" was the celebrated six stringer who almost single-handedly spearheaded a blooze-rock revival in the 80s, assisted by older bro JIMMIE's band THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS and smart soulman ROBERT CRAY. In sharp contrast to 1995's mediocre career roundup GREATEST HITS, THE REAL DEAL is an aptly named package worthy of the smokin' legacy. Standout ripsnorters spotlighted here include originals PRIDE AND JOY and THE HOUSE IS ROCKIN', even as he carves out a softer side via "cool down" covers of TIN PAN ALLEY and ELMORE JAMES' THE SKY IS CRYING. Obvious inspiration JIMI HENDRIX's signature jam VOODOO CHILE sounds fresh and vibrant all over again in VAUGHAN's capable mitts. Like the Seattle slasher, SRV crashed and burned far too early, but the rich catalogue he left behind will serve as a template for generations of guitar slingers to come.

RATING: FIVE COLD SHOTS

This review is from: Real Deal: Greatest Hits 1 (Audio CD)
Excellent from beginning to end!!! It contains 16 great songs, including a live recording from Carnegie Hall - "The Sky is Crying". This volume contains many of his hits, such as "Pride & Joy", "Mary had a Little Lamb", "Texas Flood", "Couldn't Stand the Weather", "Tin Pan Alley", "The House is Rockin", and many others. This is a great album cd, and I recommend it. Thanks!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sorry I had not discovered SRV's music until now, July 6, 2010

I must admit, I had not heard SRV's music until I watched a PBS special on him recently and was knocked out by the passion, musicianship and the type of music he played. It happens to be right up my alley. This CD, of course, is a must if you're into his music, I have also been renting his concert DVD's from Netflix which I enjoy tremendously. It is truly tragic that such talent is lost at their prime, and now if you would excuse me< I have a lot of great musci to catch up on.

It's a shame that for all of us SRV fans every knew albulm that his estate releases will always and forever be a rerun, but for a true SRV fan all ya gotta do is shuffle the order and throw in a song or two that was recorded different and we are in Heaven. It's SRV to the bone, like everything he did, to the bone!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE VERY BEST BLUES OR ROCK BLUES GUITARIST, December 3, 2010
This review is from: Real Deal: Greatest Hits 1 (Audio CD)
I think that anyone who is familiar with blues and rock blues recording artists and who openly and honestly listens to The Real Deal Greatest Hits 1 would have to proclaim that STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN IS THE VERY BEST BLUES OR ROCK BLUES GUITARIST WHO EVER LIVED! So much for such fabulous guitar players like Freddie King, Eric Clapton, Alvin Lee, Ronnie Earl, or Jimmy Thackery. So much for Joe Bonamassa and the other "next Stevie Ray Vaughans." No one, and I mean no one, is or was as talented a blues or rock blues guitarist as was the one and only Stevie Ray Vaughan! He was also blessed with what could be said to be a very cool rock blues voice. So if you want to hear much of Stevie Ray's very best guitar playing and also hear alot of his very cool rock blues vocals, I strongly recommend that you immediately purchase and much enjoy Real Deal Greatest Hits 1. This is a MUST BUY cd for every rock blues fan who does not already own all of the Stevie Ray Vaughan cds from which all of the songs on Real Deal Greatest Hits 1 were chosen.

John

One of my favorite guitarist, up there with Jimi Hendrix.

I listen to SRV casually, so this CD is perfect...it has all of the 'best' songs of SRV. Texas flood, Crossfire, Couldn't Stand The Weather, The Sky is Crying...wow.

This will certainly be the CD I keep in the car once I learn how to drive, hah!

I actually got this CD for my 73 year old Dad. I know he's a fan of the "bluesy" guitar (like BB King) so I figured he needed some Stevie in his collection. Boy, was I right! He LOVES this!

I HIGHLY recommend this particular CD because of its' variety and it has lots of Stevies greatest hits.
