Outstandingly Resourceful!,

This review is from: The Real Deal: How to get Signed to a Record Label (Paperback)
this book is very precise and chronologically correct. each chapter leads to the next covering nearly every aspect of the artist/songwriter-end of the music industry. i especially liked the sparatic quotes from interviews with successful artists, A&Rs, CEOs, publishers and producers in the industry. don't buy this book if you're looking for an easy way to land a deal, but do buy it if you are willing to work at advancing your music career and would like a practical guide to give you an advantage over the competition. i highly recommend this book, it's a must-read for anyone that desires to MAKE MONEY with their music and aquire basic knowledge about the music industry including what common mistakes to avoid straight from the mouths of industry big-wigs.

It's time somebody said it!,

Daylle's other books were great but this new edition is so appropriate for today's music market. Daylle doesn't mess around. She explains that the best way to get a record deal is to pursue a career, and she's right. I would rather make money from my music than chase that elusive deal. I know so many musicians getting stagnant on labels. I do want a long term career. I'd also like a record deal but as Daylle says, the best one is a deal that advances your career because most labels won't give you one. I'm motivated to do what it takes to succeed after reading The Real Deal because it is the real deal. Daylle gives great resources for making money from music and that's what I want. Her chapter on making money from songs is very helpful and the one on getting to the next level of touring gives me hope. Anyone who wants to make money from their music should read this terrific book!

This book is an invaluable resource to any artist trying to make it. It is not only about how to meet A&R people and push your music, but is also about getting your career set and maneuvering to have the A&R people come to you. This book made me reevaluate what my attitude was toward getting signed. I no longer believe in the fairy-god-mother-record-company myth, and the insight from this book will help me put my music career on the right path.

If only getting a record deal were so easy. A lot of the info here works great in theory, but not in practice. I recommend something by somebody who actually works in the industry rather than just writes books about it.

Must read!,

I read the first edition, which I loved, but this has so much more info on how to make money from music and continues to be a source of inspiration. I especially appreciated all of the input from A & R people, industry pros, and many musicians who are accomplishing what some of us may have thought impossible. And this is the first book I've seen with such good/realistic info on touring Europe. Making money from music is hard but this book makes it possible. Kudos Daylle, for writing such a great resource for musicians!

This book filled in the cracks of my education and made me reevaluate my music path. I've been fixated on getting signed and thinking less about the joy of doing my music and developing my career. Now I see why I haven't been signed. I need to work on my craft more and get out and work harder for exposure. But it seems do-able now with the tools from this terrific book. Congratulations Daylle! You sure opened my eyes to the reality of the music business. Now I plan to take my business more seriously using what I learned.

Daylle's books are a wealth of information for the artist who is serious about their craft and wants to make a living from it. As I've stated before she makes daunting tasks seem achievable and her real life experience is absolutely encouraging and inspirational.

I love this book! It's given me so many great ideas for how to get my music to the next level. I want to make money from it and Daylle wants that for me. What she says makes so much sense, and is practical too! The Real Deal is that I'll get the best record deal if I get my career going first. I do want the career. Daylle goes into details about how important it is to consider your music a business, because it is if you want to make money from it. And I do!! I got so many great directions to go in with my music. Daylle doesn't mess around. Every page is packed with tips and resources for making a living from my music. When I have that going, I'll be in a better position to get a label deal. My copy is already underlined like crazy. Daylle's inspirational tone is one of the best parts. Thank you Daylle, for caring about us musicians!
