Useful, but has errors,

This review is from: Real Estate Appraisal Exam Prep For the 21st Century (Paperback)
I found the book somewhat useful in preparing for the Certified General Exam. The book was designed for those preparing for the Licensed and Certified Residential exams and not really for those preparing for the Certified General exam. However, the author does highlight those topics that should be researched more thoroughly by those puruing the advanced certification. It provides a good foundation upon which to build. My only complaint with the book is that there are quite a few substantive errors. The book needs to be reviewed a few times and re-released. ... It sure would be nice if the book could be expanded to include study material and questions for the Certified General. (Hint!)

Excellent review for Certified Residential exam,
This review is from: Real Estate Appraisal Exam Prep For the 21st Century (Paperback)
I found the exercises in Dr. Julian's book to be very helpful towards passing the Certified Residential Exam. There is a clear and precise explanation for using the HP12c, which I had been having difficulty grasping. While I did use other resources, this book was among the best material for review. Passed the 6 hour exam (and it took the entire 6 hours), on the first attempt. The appraiser's math questions are relevant; my exam was at least 60% math. I recommend this book for anyone preparing for the residential exam.

Meant for an in-person or seminar class,

This book is definitely meant as a text for a class or seminar, as there are many holes and inconsistencies within the text that require further explanation. Many of the review questions throughout the sections do not correctly correspond to their answers. Even furthermore, many of the explanations as to how the answers were derived are very convoluted. While it does provide a good amount of easily digestible information, I would not suggest this book to be used as a primary study guide.
