Please be aware that all the 5 star reviews you see below are all probably written by the auther himself. You will notice that all the reviewers have posted within a very short time from each other, most have a common single name, and if you click on their name this is the only review they have written on Amazon.

I have not read the book, but if the publisher/author had to resort to abuse of the Amazon peer review system, then his advice can't be worth taking.

Real Estate Investing in Canada by Don Campbell does not teach anything special. If you do some search on internet, you can find a lot of similar materials for free. Some calculations and most of the suggestions in the book are not practical at all. Buying properties is explained based on the negotation with the vendor. In practice, negotations take place between the realtors. You do not even see the vendor's face. There is no information in the book that is specific to Canadian Real Estate Market either. I am extremely disappointed.

I agree with the review written by John Vantel on July 16, 2005. I am disappointed at this book. I can find much more valuable information at the small "real estate" section of "Personal Finance for Canadians for Dummies" than this whole book. The book has compiled a simple to-do-list for people who will be interested in doing real estate investment. It is an ok job. I think the main purpose for this book is rather to get people sign in for their monthly paid membership program or attend their seminars. Just to be aware.

This book was brilliant in the simplicity of the story. Richard represents many average Canadians and Don R Campbells book provides the perspective and insights of how investing in real estate is possible for almost anyone.
I chose to become a REIN member about a year after reading the book. Initially inspired by the book I took action and purchased 3 cash flowing single family properties. I realized I wanted more support and education so I joined REIN in Toronto.
REIN and it's network of like minded people was exactly what I needed. 3 years later my portfolio has grown to 9 properties and they are nicely paying for themselves and I am slowly building my networth and long term sustainable wealth.

The ACRE system, as taught in this book, is fantastic! And the key word here is 'System'. Everything is laid out in a step by step fashion, from analyzing the towns, to the neighbourhoods, to evaluating the properties, to advice to dealing with tenants. I've been reading up on personal finance for about 8ish years, and it's been geared pretty specifically towards real estate for about 3ish, but I hadn't acted until I was taught the ACRE system.

But let's give you something more concrete.....
I have never made over $28 000 in one year, and I live in a major city in Canada. Yet, using his system, I was able to buy a single family detached home, in an area that is obviously up and coming (it's in a transition area), near a major transportation area....and it takes me literally 3 minutes and 17 seconds to walk to work. On top of that, even if the Ottawa market flatlines for years, and the government stops spending money in Ottawa, and the reno's I've done add nothing to the property's value.....even if all of these outlandish possibilities came true, I would still be making about a 10% return on my money, as over a third of my mortgage is paid for simply by renting out parking spaces.

I used his systems to buy my first house for myself, and I'll definitely be using them to buy some true investment properties as well!

Thanks, this book was very timely in my life, as a veteran Real Estate investor with over 23 properties, I found that I was hitting a wall with my Real Estate portfolio.

The information alone starting on page 37... Fundamentals on why Real Estate goes up in value was brilliant, completely changed my thinking about the area and properties I have been purchasing.

As well the section on How to Get the Bank to Yes!! was the most helpful in securing new mortgage funding.

Once again thanks this book is a must for everyone from first time home buyers to serious players.

As a veteren Real Estate investor with over 47 transactions I was not sure if I could learn anything from this book... boy was I wrong...

Starting right from the beginning this book was loaded with insightful information on the Canadian Real Estate Market.

It was refreshing to have a Real Estate investing book written by a Canadian someone who knows what he is talking about. I have read many books on Real Estate and this one was head and sholders above everything else.. a must read for everyone who is either interested in or is a seasoned Real Estate investor

Rarely, do I ever read a book from cover to cover, and usually I am very sceptical about things... but I can honestly say Real Estate Investing in Canada by Don Campbell was one of the most practical information loaded books that I have ever read.

From start to finish this book was loaded with 'meat & potatoes' I finished the book over this past weekend and I may read it again.

As a vetren Real Estate investor, I found at least 5 new things that I can implement tomorrow and especially the section starting on page #37 talking about the fundamentals of Real Estate, I found this section invaluable.

This book was just what I have been looking for, it was written in easy to understand terms, and the information was top notch.. I am just in the process of reading it through for the second time, there is too much information to digest on just one sitting. The information talked about how to submitt my offers and How to get the bank to say yes was 'over the top'

This book covers all the fundamentals and systems my family has used over the last 9 years to accumulate a portfolio of over 50 properties. I was pleasantly surprised with the many gems of wisdom throughout this book. It's a resource I'll keep close at hand as we build our real estate portfolio.
