The flame is really relaxing and looks great. It crackles and smells like a real fire because it is a real fire. The only problem I have is that I was planning on having it on a corner shelf that I have which I thought would be more than roomy enough for this, but this fire often reaches out of the glass cylander bowl. It jumps and flickers quickly from 3 inches to up to 16 inches high. When the flame does surpass the glass cylandar in height it doesn't always do so straight up... sometimes it goes a few inches out to the side... So basically it's not a good idea to have this even remotely close to any wall. Closing all the windows to make sure no light breezes coming in will make the fire calm down a bit more. I really want to keep it though because I really love it, so I'm going to try to figure something out for where to put it. The instructions do mention that people with pets or children should be very wary about owning this because the cylandar gets very hot with the flame and also kids and pets may feel compelled to look down into the cylandar not realizing that a second later the flame can suddenly whip up past the cylandar up to their eyeballs. This is a great gift to give those without small children.

Love this item. The flame dances and crackles very nicely. I just wish we could still get the pourable gel fuel that was discontinued in Sep 2011. Since we can't, we have to use the 7 oz junior gel fuel cans and remove the fuel reservoir that comes with the fireplace. It's easy enough and works well; it's just a bummer that we can't use the more economical pourable fuel. The company is very friendly and helpful, too.

The picture and description does not do the Mediterranean Personal fireplace justice. I purchased this as a gift for my father-in-law and everyone loved it! I am going to purchase one for myself!!! It is a beautiful flame and provides a nice warmth.
