Sharon Salzberg cofounded the Insight Meditation Society with Jack Kornfield and Joseph Goldstein. In addition to Real Happiness, she is the author of eight other books, including the bestsellers Lovingkindness and Faith. A teacher for 40 years, she has been a contributing editor at O, The Oprah Magazine and has written for Time, Real Simple, Good Housekeeping, Self, Yoga Journal, More, and others. She divides her time between Barre, Massachusetts, home of the IMS, and New York City.

Sharon Salzberg has been a student of Buddhism since 1971, and leading meditation retreats worldwide since 1974. She teaches both intensive awareness practice (vipassana or insight meditation) and the profound cultivation of lovingkindness and compassion (the Brahma Viharas). She is a co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts and The Barre Center for Buddhist Studies.

Sharon's latest book is Real Happiness At Work: Meditations for Accomplishment, Achievement, and Peace, published by Workman Publishing. She is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post and is also the author of several other books including the New York Times Best Seller, Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation: A 28-Day Program (2010), Love Your Enemies: How to Break the Anger Habit & Be a Whole Lot Happier with Robert Thurman (2013), Faith: Trusting Your Own Deepest Experience (2002), and Lovingkindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness (1995).

Sharon Salzberg is cofounder of the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, Massachusetts. She has played a crucial role in bringing Asian meditation practices to the West. Whether you meditate regularly or not (I don't). Whether you hate your job or feel pretty okay about it (the latter for me), this book will change your life for the better in such simple and beautiful ways, it almost feels like magic. Salzberg's voice is knowledgeable and comforting, and her advice is creative and thoroughly doable. Regarding a particular work exchange, I went from dark and angry to open and calm with a simple "stealth meditation." There are more gifts in here than under a thousand Christmas trees!

Reading Real Happiness at Work was refreshing, down-to-earth, and inspiring with a simple, yet profound message of bringing loving kindness, compassion, and equanimity into our places of work. It is a guide to bringing Mindfulness Meditation practice, into daily living and into whatever our chosen profession might be. This is not a self-help book prompting the reader to beat themselves up, change who they are, and adhere to an old-school "head down helmet on" perspective on the workplace. Instead Sharon teaches the reader to develop a meditation practice that cultivates loving kindness for ourselves, so we can in turn bring this energy, and ease, into work. Throughout, there are real life examples of bringing this practice into everyday, interpersonal issues at work with practical advice on how to handle them from a place of kindness and compassion. They are situations we've all been through, and I love how tangible the exercises and insights are.

This book offers excellent insight into seeing why we're stressed at work and how to reduce that. It's full of anecdotes from people who work in a variety of fields -- tech startups to corporate jobs to waitresses -- who've used these techniques to find greater happiness and fulfillment in their jobs. Salzberg talks to workers and experts and offers an overall progra for looking at your work life to see where you can make changes and then doing it.

Having read Real Happiness, I wondered whether this would be a simple rewrite with a few new twists. To the contrary, it is chock full of practical, applicable tips to the workplace! Her stories reflect the depth of her insights and her exercises so spot-on. Imagine these practices taking over the workplace. Check out the Stealth meditations! Essential and useful! Thanks, Sharon, for a "handful of happiness!"

I'm an "old-fashioned reader" so I love the texture and color. Easy to keep in a purse/backpack and access as needed!

After reading Loving Kindness, I was very disappointed with this book. It is double spaced, large print and lacks real depth. I will be helpful for someone who is beginning practice but I think there are much better books out there. One can get Mindfulness in Plain English or better yet Miracle of Mndfulness by Thich Nhat Hahn for free on the web.
